John Patrick Clemmons

Tampa, Florida - John Patrick Clemmons, 75, passed away on September 23, 2025, in the midst of his battle with cancer.

Born on November 27, 1949, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, John was the son of Robert Homer Clemmons and Katherine Louise (Lockard) Clemmons. As the son of a naval pilot, his childhood was spent moving frequently, with the family living in places such as Monterey, California; Norfolk, Virginia; Pensacola, Jacksonville, and Key West, Florida. They eventually settled in Winter Haven, Florida, where John graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1967. He went on to attend Florida State University, where he earned dual degrees in History and Philosophy, later completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Florida.

During his college years, John developed a passion for politics and social justice, particularly issues surrounding classism. He worked in factories and orange groves, where he organized unions and dedicated himself to advocating for the rights of workers. His love for the city of Tampa also ran deep. He took great pride in his research and interviews with Tampa's cigar workers, a project that reflected his appreciation for the city and its people.

John spent the majority of his career as a research and development engineer with Critikon, contributing to advancements in medical devices. He took particular pride in his work on blood pressure cuffs and is named as inventor on a company patent.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Shannon Clemmons Rogers (James) and Kalyn Clemmons Blanton (Daniel); his brother, Robert Michael Clemmons; his grandchildren, Calvin Rogers, William Blanton, Katherine Rogers, Dylan Blanton, and Olivia Blanton; his stepsister, Beverly Parks; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Clemmons.
