Charlie - John Austin Coker, 60, of Charlie, TX, went home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2025. Born on September 26, 1964, in Henrietta, TX, he was a devoted husband, loving father, and a cherished friend to many. He and his beloved wife, Wendy (Sims) Coker, shared nearly 32 wonderful years together, raising four sons: John (Austin) Coker Jr., Zachary Coker, Joseph Coker, and Lance Coker.

John was a true jack-of-all-trades, known for his strong work ethic and ability to fix anything. He spent many years as a skilled fitter/welder, farmer, and builder. If it had an engine, he could make it run. He had a passion for working with wood, tending to his lambs and chickens, and caring for people's lawns. All through his life, he found joy in ministering to others-often over the hood of his mower or old pickup or flipping burgers over a grill at a church or school event.

John's greatest loves were his faith, his family, and Henry, the family's spirited 8-pound Yorkie. He never met a stranger and had a gift for sharing the Lord's message in everyday conversations. As an elder at Western Heritage Cowboy Church in Dean, TX, his faith was the cornerstone of his life. He also never missed an opportunity to share stories about his wonderful wife, his amazing sons, and his adored grandchildren. John had a generous heart and would give anyone the shirt off his back.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy; his sons: John (Austin) Jr. and wife Hailey of Brinnon, WA; Zachary Coker of Hurst, TX; Joseph Coker of Charlie, TX; and Lance Coker of Charlie, TX; as well as his two beloved grandchildren, Victoria and Michael Coker. He is also survived by his siblings: Darla Stone and husband Sam, Jill Halley and husband Tim, and Joe Coker III, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Coker Jr. and Jane (Norman) Coker, and his grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Scott-Morris Funeral Home in Nocona, TX. A celebration of life service will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Western Heritage Cowboy Church in Dean, TX, followed by burial at Coker Cemetery in Bulcher, TX, near Saint Jo.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jakob Plummer Memorial Scholarship at Western Heritage Cowboy Church or Coker Cemetery.

I did not know you John but I knew your sweet wife for a season!
So hard to understand when one is taken so young! But God´s ways are not our ways and we must bow in humble submission to His will! He sounds like a wonderful man and I´m glad Wendy got to spend precious years with him! Thinking of you Wendy and asking God to hold you and your family close at this time! I understand your pain...my husband died at 63!

I'm so sorry to hear the passing of John. We were neighbors and attended the church when Joe( his Dad) preached in Cliff,NM John and Wendy and the children were such a blessing. When my husband died they were here to help me. My son Johnathan (age 32)and Austin are still friends today. My deepest sympathy to Wendy and the boys, family and friends. Sincerely Paula Bird
