Larry Coll---what a kind childhood friend. I had just thought of him recently, and of his parents also, who provide fond memories, that are often conjured up in conversations. Five generations of association, his father always said. I wanted to tell him how I've become like his father, studying silver hallmarks and tang dynasty porcelain horses---how I just recently told the anecdote about his father mistakingly tasting the dog food from the stove---how I can't look at a Lincoln Mark III, or a '68 Thunderbird, or even a derby hat without thinking of him.
I never remember John saying anything unkind.
John was on a quest since we were kids to find his roots. It was wonderful when he found his natural brother--not an easy to contact when one is a policeman.
He was so proud of his children. He'd tell me about his daughters and his sons. The last time I saw John, a proud father came up to me on the dais when police officer son, Ryan, won an Amen Corner award, for bravery. I'm so glad for those moments. Weeks later we talked and laughed.
I wish we had talked more often. He was just a good, honest, kind soul.
I'll miss knowing he's out there. My sympathies to Paula,Ryan, Robert and his family I hadn't met. Your journey is complete John Lawrence--rest gently.

You were always the other big brother, one of several actually, but you were always the one who was nice and didn't treat me like the annoying little sister. I loved you as Larry, then as JC and again when you were just John. Always loved you, and will always appreciate how close you remained with my family. You left a lovely legacy here, rest in peace.
