I was deeply saddened to hear of John's passing. I am so sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with the family. I had the privilege of working with John for a few weeks and he was very knowledgeable and was always willing to help. He was very kind and made me feel welcome when I started. He had a great sense of humor and always made me laugh. We all miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.

John and I worked together at the museum on grants compliance. He was a patient, very smart, and kind man always willing to help others. His thoughtfulness as well as his gentle humor will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family.

John and I worked closely on different parts of federal grants compliance at the museum. He knew everything, he could answer every question, he could think his way through even the most complicated, absurd questions. Aside from being really smart, John had a quiet sense of humor that could surprise you. Lianne and Hailey, I am so sorry for your loss. John was an exceptional person, we all miss him.

I met John right after my team, including a collaborating scientist, had won a National Science Foundation award. It was my first one, and John walked me patiently through the process and explained what I should expect and what my responsibilities were. I came away from that encounter thinking "What a great man this is. He wears his extensive knowledge so lightly and treated us with such care and grace." I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. May God bless you John and all of your family with multiples of the same grace you so generously showed my team and me when we were just starting out.
Best wishes,
Juan C. Montes

John was a great colleague. I hadn´t worked with him in years. Still, I reached out over a year ago needing career advice, and being the John we all know - his friendly and giving nature - offered invaluable feedback, encouragement, and great insight: today, I have him to thank for my successes.

I was John's boss at the American Museum of Natural History, and although I only knew him for just over a year, John touched both me and everyone he worked with at the Museum. He and I had many things in common and shared many of the same interests, including movies, music, and similarities in family dynamics and how we progressed in our careers. I will truly miss John and I know I speak on behalf of everyone who knew him at the Museum over the years, that he was a dear colleague and true friend.

I was so sorry to hear of John´s passing. The best thing you can say about anyone is that they were genuinely a good person and that was John. A true gentleman and a pleasure to work with. I´ll miss giving him gardening advice this spring. God bless you John.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I was very sad to hear of John´s passing. We knew each other as classmates at IHM, and became friends on social media later in life. I was looking forward to seeing him again at a class reunion. May he rest in peace.
