In Loving Memory: John Edward D'Emidio

September 11, 1956 - June 29, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved John, who peacefully departed from this world on June 29, 2023, at the age of 66. He fought a courageous battle against cancer, showing unwavering strength and determination throughout his journey.

Born on September 11, 1956, John was a remarkable man whose presence touched the lives of many. He was known for his kind heart, love of life, and unconditional love for his family and friends. His legacy will forever be remembered, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

John had a passion for life that shone through in everything he did. As a dedicated professional, he excelled in his career in many endeavors leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry. His dedication, integrity, and meticulous attention to detail earned him the respect and admiration of those he worked with.

Outside of his professional life, John had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed spending time in nature, at their family river house in Shenandoah, Virginia. He loved his family reunions in Outer Banks of North Carolina and Sandbridge Beach, Virginia. He found solace in the beauty of the world around him and appreciated the simple joys that life had to offer.

Family was at the center of John's universe. He was a loving and devoted husband to his cherished wife Susan, with whom he shared 29 years. Their bond was one of unconditional love, support, and shared dreams. Together, they created a wonderful, blended family and raised 8 wonderful children; Troy, Jonathan, Teresa (Rory), Joshua (Samantha), Jessica, Christina (Leo), Justin and Ryan who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.

John was also a doting grandfather to eight grandchildren; Brooke, Anthony, Abigail, Maci, Kyla, Evan, Eddie and Alice, bringing immense joy and laughter to their lives. He cherished every moment spent with them, leaving behind memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

Though our hearts ache with grief at the loss of such an extraordinary man, we take comfort in knowing that John's spirit will live on in our memories and the countless lives he touched. Let us remember him for the way he lived, not the way he left. His legacy will forever inspire us to live each day with love, compassion, and a zest for life. May you find strength, love, and comfort in the memories you shared with John. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of John will be held at 11:00 AM on July 6, 2023 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 12351 All Saints Place, Woodbridge, VA, 22192. A reception will follow at Brittany's Restaurant and Sports Bar, 12449 Dillingham Square, Woodbridge, VA, 22192. Family and friends are warmly invited to pay their respects, share stories, and find solace in each other's company.

"He touched our lives with kindness, his memory will never fade.

In our hearts, he'll always stay, for the love he gave will never wane."

It is almost incomprehensible that John has left us so young. He fought this battle with courage and confidence. Sadly, it was not enough. My last conversation with John he told me "when I get better. I´m coming up to Newark New Jersey and having the biggest steak at Iberia". When the cousins from New Jersey went down to Virginia to visit he always instructed us to bring bread from Calandras bakery. Not five loaves or 10 loaves. He wanted 20 loaves. I will surely miss him.

John and I worked together at NVB. When I first started there he was very helpful in showing me around. His warm nature and honesty always made me feel welcome. I am saddened to hear of his passing.
I will always remember John well.
What a great celebration of life this will be.

My sincere condolences to the family. Whenever I think of John the smile you see above is what I remember. He was always smiling and happy! A bit of mischief in that smile as well. So sorry for your loss. Praying for your peace and comfort during this time.

JD, was a great racquetball player and it was always good to have him on your team cause of his desire to win. Knowing him since around 2008, we got know each other well through many hundreds of competitive games, and our time sitting on the benches having conversations about our lives and famalies, waiting to play again. Those were some really good times when you look back on them. He amazed me how he could speak spanish to Luis and German when they were on the court. The racquetball group is very sad of losing one of our teamates. JD was always the first to send me a message during holidays and special events, which always touched me and my family. He always greeted you with "what's happening dude", and would always fist bump everyone when it was time for him to leave. It's still hard to fathom he's no longer here to play with us, but rest assured, his memory always will be. We love you JD.

I´ve known JD for 37 years and he hired me at NVB. It was clear to me early on that he was a great guy to be around. He loved life and always found the positive approach in anything he did. I still remember us sitting in his office laughing until we cried . When he married Susan that completed his life and he was so happy. He will be missed by all and may he rest in peace. A life well lived. Mike Clary
