John Pershing Dahlquist

DAHLQUIST, JOHN PERSHING John Pershing Dahlquist was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Moline, Ill., the middle son of Nels and Hazel Dahlquist. He died May 3 at the age of 86. John worked at John Deere Harvester Company in Moline until 1956 when he, his wife, and two daughters moved to Portland where he worked for the Portland School District until he retired. Dolores, his wife of 64 years, died in November 2003. John is survived by his daughters, Linda Mills of Salem and Beth Monlux of Portland. He has four grandchildren, Bret Monlux of Portland; Amy Brannon and husband, Mitch of Salem; Kara Monlux of Portland; and Ryan Monlux and wife, Jeana of Troutdale; and nine great-grandchildren, Meghan Gernon (16), Natasha Turpen (13), Sarah Gernon (13), Kylee Wegner (12), Hailey Monlux (9), Coy Brannon (7), Jordan Monlux (6), Gage Monlux (4), and Carter Monlux (3). Lovingly referred to as "The Old Poop" or "Gramps," John's life was devoted to loving and providing for his family. Father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, we will miss you so much. We love you! Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7 in Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 6705 S.E. 14th, Portland, OR 97202. Viewing is from 10 to 5 Friday, May 6.
