Bud was my cousin, my mother being his father's sister, but we could never quite become close at such a long distance. From my Facebook page some years back: "1948 or so with two aunts and three cousins. I'm the one close to the ground and next to me is someone older folks might know. He is John Dancy, former White House correspondent for NBC News in the days of Huntley-Brinkley and John Chancellor. John is now a visiting professor of journalism at Duke University. And me, well, I'm a retired electrician.

I just leaned of his passing. I met Mr. Dancy by chance at the mid-term Democratic Convention in Memphis Tennessee during the Carter Presidency. I had credentials and was employed within the criminal justice system in Memphis and was taking photos at the convention. I was upstairs and walked by the area that he was about to give a live update when one of the light stands collapsed. I offered to hold the light manually and did so with the producer's OK. Mr. Dancy was the epitome of professionalism. He did his live update and afterwards he noticed my police id and he walked over to thank me for holding the light "just in time". There are very few working TV journalists these days that have the stature and integrity of him. I spoke 2 years ago with Sam Donaldson about Mr. Dancy and he too understandably held Mr. Dancy in very high regards.

So sorry to hear about Bud, didn't know he or Ann had died. We were young reporters together in Jackson. I was at the Sun and I'm pretty sure he was with WTJS. We were both newly married and lived in the same building, he and Ann downstairs and my wife and I upstairs and of course socialized a lot so knew each other well. God rest their souls.

I knew John and Ann in Chicago in the '70s. My wife and I babysat for their children while they were on vacation. He was a fine man. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

To family of John and Ann Dancy, John and Ann were cherished members of the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church and active contributors to the Washington DC community--.
John through his willingness to share the knowledge he gained from his experiences as a highly regarded correspondent for NBC news and Ann through her service to the National Folk Life Festival over many years.
I am especially grateful for an evening in their home shared with them and their close friends and national heroes Sen John and Annie Glenn.

John was my mentor and teacher while a student at Duke. He was a wonderful teacher who guided me for over a decade in my journalism career. I am very saddened to hear of his passing. I have such fond memories of his help and mentor ship, as well as his friendship and hospitality.
