John Daymont Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15, 2024.
John Neil Daymont, 90, of Orem, UT, died January 4, 2024, at his home. A kind and thoughtful man, he will be missed by all who loved him.

John was born on January 8, 1933, in Fort Worth, TX. He spent most of his childhood in Brookfield, IL. He graduated from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL. He then attended West Texas State College (now West Texas A&M University) in Canyon, TX majoring in music education, followed by his service in the 113th Army Band at Fort Knox, KY as a trumpeter.

John married Nellie Mae Hewitt on October 10, 1964, and they had three children, Kevin, Jeff, and Lizzy. The family lived in Hinsdale, IL and later Darien, IL.

John worked as a designer of dragline excavator parts at Page Engineering Company in McCook, IL. He was later employed as a courier with SEKO Logistics in Elk Grove Village, IL before retiring.

John was an avid musician who played trumpet in the West Suburban Community Band, the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra, and the Grove Players. He was also an active member at First United Methodist Church of Western Springs, IL where he sang in the choir and participated in numerous social activity groups within the church community. He enjoyed model building, camping, attending musical performances of all styles, taking his family on road trip camping vacations all over the country and documenting it all with his movie and later video cameras. After retirement he and Nellie Mae continued to travel by car, airplane, and cruise ship around the US and Europe.

Following Nellie Mae's death in 2002, John was remarried to Dorothy Miller Daymont on Sept 10, 2005, and moved to Sarasota, FL where he enjoyed sunshine and the company of nearby family and friends. In 2021 John and Dorothy moved to Summerfield Retirement in Orem, UT.

John is survived by his wife Dorothy, his sister Dixie, his children Kevin (Denise), Jeffrey (Amber Calderilla), and Lizzy (Peter Johnston), his granddaughter Taylor, his step-children Mark, Karen, David and Janet, as well as many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John (Jack) and Marian, and his brother, Lowell.

An online Celebration of Life will be hosted by Keeper Memorials at 11:00 AM Pacific on Saturday March 2, 2024. Details will be posted on mykeeper.com.
