John H. Dearborn Ph.D.

I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a wonderful and humorous man. He loved his wife Bethel and his children dearly. His granddaughter was his pride and joy. He will be greatly missed. Love always,

John was a great individual and will be missed. I was one of his doctoral students, graduating in 1972 and always remember him fondly. He will be missed.

I knew John as an out patient at St Joseph Hospital. He would come in monthly usually to be "brought down a pint". It was more like a visit with a dear friend. A smile would cross his face and he would always say how glad he was to see me. I think it was just because he thought I was better with a needle than some others. But he would ask about family, especially when my boys graduated from high school and college, and we would visit and discuss everything from the news of the day to what was happening with John.
I was so concerned about him after his wife passed, but he managed to get through those long days. He always told me he was alive because of all of us at St Joes. But he was one of those people who helped our days come alive; with a joke, a smile or a slow shake of his head when we would "pick on him".
How very fortunate I am to have known John. How very sorry I am for the loss to your family.

I was very saddened to hear of John's recent passing. I was his final master's graduate student in 1993. John spent a lot of time with me teaching about echinoderms but also about life. His connection with the natural world and his concerns with the political changes happening at the state and federal level always gave us much to discuss in the years after I left Maine. I will miss our chats and the envelopes he sent, thick with cut out newspaper articles and cartoons.

I was sorry to hear of John's passing.I knew John when he was working with the Stanford Marine Biology team in Antarctica in the 1960's and we reconnected a few times after I moved to Maine following my retirement from the National Science Foundation. I have very fond memories of my limited contacts with him My condolences to his family,he indeed made our world a better place. Kendall Moulton.

To Mark and Kathy,
Your dad was my advisor at UMO in the 70's when I went back to school after serving in the Navy. It had been 8 years since I graduated from High School and it was difficult for me to regain study habits and "fit in" with the younger croud. Your dad was very helpful in getting me through the university with a degree in Zoology.

I also had the pleasure of being neighbors with your Mom and Dad on the Tate Road in Corinth. When my children were young they loved to go Trick-or Treating at their house. Your mother enjoyed my children and always had a special treat for them.

My wife and I still live on the Tate Road and I think about your Mom and Dad every time I drive by the "old homestead". They were very special people. My condolences to you and your families.

I am so sorry for your loss. We loved John and Bethel like family. We were neighbors on the Tate Road in Corinth for many years. I will miss so many things about John, I just can't begin to share. So many things remind me of the Dearborn family day to day....like the raccoons name "Enza"....because John opened the door and "In flu Enza"....and the chunky cat with the name "Albert Turkey". I noticed your Dad falling though the iced-over pond at the house in Corinth didn't make it in the obit :) but you can be thankful you had many more years with him after that happened.
