John Deitz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 8, 2025.
John David Deitz, age 43, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, with his family by his side. Born on June 13, 1981 in Albany, NY, John was a gifted artist and musician with a deep appreciation for creativity in all its forms. He found joy and inspiration in the music of the Grateful Dead and Phish, and expressed his own artistic talents through various mediums.

In his younger years, John possessed a wonderfully playful spirit, delighting those around him with silly stories and humorous alternate lyrics to popular songs. He possessed a keen interest in Japanese anime and the Impressionist art movement along with composing music and cooking. He was also a compassionate soul with a profound love for animals.

Throughout his life, John never lost his distinctive dry wit and a certain resilience that allowed him to find moments of humor even in difficult times.

John is survived by his mother Deborah (Cote) Deitz and his sister Summer (Deitz) Wilber, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his father John "Jack" Deitz. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends who will remember him for his artistic talents and his unique sense of humor.

A private memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's name to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society [www.mohawkhumane.org].

An inspiration, often. A musician, always - a precious memory, forever. I wish I'd known him better. I wish we all had.

I believe above the storm the smallest prayer will still be heard. I believe that someone in that great somewhere hears every word.

Remembrance is the golden chain which death tries to break, but all in vain.

Sleep in peace, sweet John.

The stars come nightly to the sky. The tidal wave unto the sea. Not time, nor space, nor deep, nor high can keep my own away from me.

HE saw you were in pain, so he closed your tired eyes and gave you wings to fly. Peace be thine.
