John is a treasured friend and I look forward to being associated with him again. I am sure that he has already been reunited with some of his faithful horses that preceded him in the Spirit World. It wouldn't be paradise without them.

We grew up together in the same neighborhood. We played baseball, hunted, and fished. He was a fun guy to hang around with and I idolized him when I was young. He entered the Navy and that was the last time I saw him. My only wish I could have seen him before he passed away. He was a great guy.

It was my personal honor to serve with John on the Commissioner´s Staff (U.S. Customs). He was not only respected as a true professional and senior special agent but known for his quick sense of humor which he used to diffuse and resolve contentious issues at the very highest levels of government in Washington. His positive impact on border interdiction operations continues to serve our nation to this very day. We will miss him both personally and professionally. He and Dan Letourneau were known to be the strongest men, physically, at Headquarters. Rest in peace, my brother, your work here is finished.

John was such a joy to chat with in Houston, so good natured and full of wisdom. His calm, peaceful presence was always needed. Being a gun enthusiast, it was fascinating seeing his collection, and helping him move his thousands of ammo boxes into the moving truck!

Having Dad and Mom live with us the last 5 months has been the best. There was never a day I regretted having them so close. From the miles logged to and from doctors, endless days in hospitals, and the time we´ve had over the last 3.5 years of them living close to us in Utah.... Those will always be the times I´ll cherish.
And as Dad said "when you open your Christmas pajamas every year, think of me. Even if they are onesies again!" Love you so much Dad, out house is quiet and we kiss you sitting in the recliner in the family room

I worked with John in the Houston SAC office, and although I did not know him well, I definitely remember he was always positive - probably the most positive person there! His smile was contagious. My condolences to his family who have lost a great man. Such a beautiful tribute/obituary.

I began my Federal Career with FINCEN as a Sr Intel Analyst and was remotely assigned to Houston as the Intel half of a two-man office being stood up as the Southwest Border HIFCA. John was the Law Enforcement half of our endeavor. We hit it off great and began what we thought was going to be a great undertaking with lots of fresh ideas to put into action. On the day that we were going to have our first meeting with various LEO Reps from around Texas, two aircraft flew into the twin towers of the World Trade Center....and our plans were quickly changed. John was pulled into the HSI front office to help the new SAC and I was recalled to active duty with the Navy. By the time I returned, the HIFCA was stood down. John continued to look out for me while I was overseas and even after I returned. He actively recruited me as a Sr Intel Research Specialist into what was then US Customs (which quickly changed to BICE and then to ICE). I was again on active duty when my paperwork went through and he set up the hiring interview via phonecon (I was in Stuttgart GE at that time). To say the least, it was an interesting interview and I was selected for the job (thanks to John's insistence and high recommendations). 15 years later, I would retire from HSI. Thank you John for your friendship and support during my career. May Jesus comfort your family and may St Peter greet you at Heaven's Gate and give you passage that you well deserve.

I will miss John. He, like his Father, was a good man and good friend. The last contact I had with John was on March 9th. He is one of those who left us to soon. May

We are very thankful to have met John and Shauna two and a half years ago when we moved in across the street from them. When we pulled up in our moving truck, they immediately came out to welcome us and help us unload. We knew right away that we had landed next to special people. Over the next couple years, we enjoyed getting to know them and getting together for fun and chatting. We have already been missing sharing stories and laughing together. John was an inspiration to us with his strength and uplifting personality throughout his battle with cancer. He clearly lived an incredibly fulfilling life while leaving a legacy of loving family and service to our country. We miss you John! God bless.

One of the things I will always cherish was while I was growing up with him, us going out to the barn, taking care of and riding our horses while complaining about the TX heat. That will forever be OUR thing.
