John Dewhurst II Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 7, 2024.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce that John Davis Dewhurst II, 81 years of age, passed away peacefully at his home in Tekamah, Nebraska on December 5, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

John was born on May 23, 1943 in Fresno, California to John Dewhurst Sr and Flora Rose Quick. After he graduated from Fremont High school in 1961, he enlisted in the United States Army. He remained a very proud veteran for the remainder of his life. John eventually landed in the IT Department at Nebraska Medicine where he retired after many years of service.

In 1981, he met the love of his life, Cynthia (Moore) Dewhurst. They decided to combine their families in 1988 and together raised their blended family of a son and four daughters.

In his younger years, John enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing softball. As his life progressed, he enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching Husker football. He especially loved spending time with his family, including 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. They could do no wrong with their Grandpa.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Dewhurst Sr and Flora Rose Quick, his sister, Joyce Parker, his son, John Dewhurst III and by his granddaughter, Alonna Moore. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, and daughters Kay (John) Shreve, Tonya Moore, Terra Braniff, and Cassy (Philip) Medeiros, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at the Tekamah Cemetery on December 21, 2024 at 1:00pm. A luncheon will follow at the Tekamah VFW Hall.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with John and he was always so very kind and wonderful to work with. I also was lucky to golf with him as well and share lots of laughs. He will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. He was a sweetheart!
When I was in labor with Melissa Brokaw, in 1981, things were moving super slow. We lived at Lake Quinnebaugh near Decatur but were delivering in Blair. That was about 40 minutes away. The doctor didn´t want us to go back home but we would be charged for a whole day if we checked in that evening. John lived in Blair so we crashed on his couch until after midnight. I barely knew him then but his nature made it easy to feel at ease. Hugs and prayers.

I´m so terribly sorry for your families loss. John seemed like a terrific, kind, loving, and compassionate man. May he live on through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. My thoughts, prayers, and love are with you all during this time
