I met John when he was cook on a Great Lakes freighter...talked often with him an was one of many amazing characters ...I met him a few years back walking in the point with his dog and I was glad he was still in the acting business ...I would see him in many movies and would tell friends about him. I just thought of him and decided to google to see what he was up to and sad to read that he died...wish I spent more time with him. Danny

John was a gifted, versatile, and hard-working actor, a great raconteur, and an astute and acerbic observer of the world.
Never one to suffer fools gladly, he was quick with praise when merited and affectionate and courteous to those he admired and cherished.
His rich, beautiful voice with the unmistakable Scottish burr and his laugh that seemed to rumble up from the depths will long be remembered by all who knew him.
A friend and colleague who will be missed.
Deepest condolences to the family.
May he rest in peace where all dogs are happy and all producers just let the artists get on with the job.
