John Hall Eastman, 65, formerly of Dodge Center, died of cancer Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016.

He was born June 2, 1951, to Hall and Harriet Eastman of Dodge Center and was a 1969 graduate of Dodge Center High School. He joined the Army with duty in Europe during his two-year tour as a field artillery operator and intelligence assistant. After his discharge, he attended Winona State University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in 1980.

His professional career began with a 10-year stint with the U.S. Customs Service in California. Following that, he was employed by oil prospectors based in Denver, with assignments that took him to North Dakota, Montana, Kansas, Texas and Nebraska, as well as Colorado. In the course of his work he received numerous awards and letters of commendation from both military and civilian employers.

John was the beloved brother of Sheila (Jerry) Kahlert of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Gerald (Anne) Eastman and Philip Eastman, both of Rochester, Alan (Mary Lou) Eastman of Adams, Neb., and Robert Eastman, Lawler, Iowa; and was the beloved uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by family and devoted lifelong friends.
