John Ellis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 15, 2020.
John passed away of cardiac arrest on Thursday, October 15, 2020 after battling major health issues for many years. He was 71 years old. John was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Shoaf Ellis & Minnie Ellis; sister Betty; and brother Pete. Born in San Francisco, CA., John was a proud graduate of SF Polytechnic High School and was an elected member of the Polytechnic Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a Federally Licensed Jet Engine Technician and enjoyed a 32-year career at United Airlines Maintenance Base in South San Francisco. He was also the Safety Man and a Blood Drive Coordinator for his work area and received many awards as a blood donor. John is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Gayle and loving stepson, Arthur. He is also survived by his brother, James Ellis (Dorothy) of Hayward, CA; sister Ruby Ward of El Paso, TX; sister-in-law Joan Reed of Prescott, AZ; cousin Darlene Wilkins (and family) of Raleigh, NC; as well as many nieces and nephews. John had a courageous outlook on life and an unflagging devotion to his entire family. He will be missed by the many lives his spirit touched. His "word" was his "bond".

Gayle and Arthur , I am so sorry to hear of the passing of John. Since my move to Co , in 2000 I lost touch with some people. I lost both of my parents in 2015 and 2020. My heart goes out to both of you just know John is in a better place.

Best regards

I am thinking even more of my Uncle Johnny today. It´s his heavenly birthday. Uncle Johnny was truly a remarkable man. He loved his family with all his heart. He was extremely intelligent and had a zest for life. Uncle Johnny was always kind, compassionate, caring, thoughtful, and one of the most humble people you would ever meet. I always loved talking to him about animals, cars, United Airlines, travel and homeopathic remedies for all of our ailments. Uncle Johnny was a great person, loving husband, proud stepfather, doting son, loyal brother, protector of animals, and a wonderful uncle! I am so blessed to have known him. I miss him terribly and think of him often. Rest in peace.

Though long in the past, I have nothing but great memories of John and can still envision his smile that always reached his eyes. God is merciful and has granted him a holy rest.

John was a great, friendly person, my wife n I had been neighbor for over 20 years. His major medical issues had kept him from doing the things he loved, but when we do meet his "HI" and friendly smiles that I will treasure from the bottom of my heart always. Anita n I are surelygoing to miss him. May, him rest in peace, GOD BLESS

I too was a Polytechnic student and graduate of the 1967 class. I did not know John well but his obituary speaks volumes. Bob Lewis
