John Albert Emery, 79, of Alanson, Michigan, passed away on May 12, 2025. Born on March 4, 1946, in Saline, Michigan, John lived a life rooted in hard work, laughter, and deep devotion to his family and passions.

John was the beloved husband of Sue Emery and a proud father to John (Laura) Emery, Rick Emery, Paul (Courtney) Emery, Mike Braden, and Bill Braden. He was a cherished grandfather to Ashley (David) Granger, Nathan Emery, Cymberlee Braden, and Christina Braden; and a loving great-grandfather to Addysen Braden and Joshua Braden. His family was the heart of his world.

He is also remembered by his sisters Kathy (David) Adams and Betty White. John was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Dora Emery; siblings Paul Emery, Becky Emery, and Richard Emery; and granddaughter Rachel Steiman.

John had an enduring love for steam engines and tractors-a passion that shaped much of his time and interests. Whether he was working on model farms or spending hours in the garage tinkering with machinery, he found joy in the mechanical world. His woodworking skills were matched only by his dedication to keeping his lawn pristine-mowing was not just a chore but a source of pride. He also enjoyed watching animals and found peace in observing nature's quiet rhythms.

Known for his infectious smile and quick wit, John brought laughter wherever he went. He had a gift for making others feel welcome-always ready with a joke or story-and was considered a good friend by all who knew him. His warmth extended beyond words; it was felt in every handshake, every shared project in the garage, and every moment spent with loved ones.

John's bond with his dog Sam-E was special. Their companionship brought him comfort and joy through the years. It brings solace to those who loved him to know they are now reunited.

A memorial service will be held at the Alanson Community Center in Alanson, MI on Friday June 6th from 4pm - 6pm.

John leaves behind a legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, humor, and unwavering love for his family. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to be sent to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society in Harbor Springs, MI in John's name.
