He was my attorney when I divorced my first wife !!!
He had an awesome sense of humour, he always seemed to have a way to make things seem better than they were.

Mrs. Fetherstonhaugh, I just learned from Rob that his father had passed away. When I visited Dorval 3 years ago, it was a highlight of my trip to be able to say hello to you at the house on Berkley Crescent.

I always knew your husband had an accomplished career, but the range of his interests and achievements were truly astounding. First amongst them, of course, is the example he and you have left with your children. Their lives and contributions are the best tribute to both you and John.

From a neighbour and friend just a few doors away many years ago, my sincere condolences.

Both personally ,on behalf of the Drummond Foundation (the successor to the St Margaret's Home charitable trusts with which John Fetherstonhaugh was so deeply engaged for many years) , and in gratitude for the Wise counsel he offered in that role and as an advisor to my late grandmother Dorothea Drummond Millar, I extend deepest sympathies to Mr Fetherstonhaugh's family on his passing .

Cathy,
I hadn't seen John since the early forties when we were at Selwyn House at the same time, although he was a year or two ahead of me. I have a clear memory of him ... tall, slim, thick hair, and seemingly very intelligent.

Do you remember me? We went to Miss Edwards' dancing classes together and later skied at the Shawbridge Club. We never really got to know each other very well, but I remember you very clearly. I knew your brother Bill pretty well, and I have a clear memory of your Father, who always seemed to be very jovial and in a good humour. I enjoyed meeting him very much.

I offer you my most sincere sympathy in John's death. But he had a long and very fulfilling and rewarding life, and was surely an ornament to his family, society and many friends and admirers. Take great comfort in that.

Please accept my warmest wishes, Cathy. It's very nice to be reminded of you, from what now seems to be so far back. All our memories are happy.
Affectionately, Geoff Lehman.

I am grateful for John's assistance with my patent application in 1986. While the invention was never a commercial success, at least both our names are permanently enshrined in the Library of Congress. A donation has been made in his memory to the Ste-Anne's Hospital foundation.

The sad news of the passing of John Fetherstonhaugh has reflected great loss to the greater Montreal community and to international communities.

My late husband, Kalman Samuels QC, was a colleague, confrere and admirer of the late John Fetherstonhaugh. Their careers were to some degree paralleled both studying Law at McGill and completed law studies at Laval University. Both received the Queens Council (QC) award and both were involved in the political arena on behalf of the Liberal Party.

May you find comfort in the recognition and memory of a significant accomplished life which has accorded so many benefits to the world around him.

Sincerely,

Stella Samuels

Can think of no finer man that Mr. Fether...loved to talk with him about our favourite topic; history...beginning with WW2, then over the years Cathie and I were together and I studied history at McGill...interwar and WW1 history. Many of the the words he spoke at the time about so many topics only resonated as the years went by.
I also want to extend my deepest condolences to Mrs Fether...I know John's idiosyncrasies were not always the easiest to deal with...and you were ALWAYS there for him and all your kids; I have only the best memories of you. Rob, Brian, my thoughts are with you and your family...and of course Cathie, John and all the Graham's...I'll be thinking of you all.

I was sad to read of John"s passing but feel honoured to have known him well. He was certainly one of the Legion's most interesting members and he did have a lot of interesting things to say. My sincere condolences to his family, of which he was very proud.
