I remember Mr. Figueroa and his family fondly. We lived across from them on Cedar Street, and my sister Valerie, brother Rex, and I played often with Elaine and John (Bubby!). Juanita was a little older than us, but I remember her, too. Take comfort in your memories.

My heart goes out to the family. I never knew Mr. Figueroa but his son John is my best friend and he is wonderful. You don't become that wonderful without great role models.

John was among the first people we met when moving to Oxnard. It was a Mayfair Bakery where he was an assistant baker. My late mother and I came to know him as one of the nicest and most mellow person. His gentle spirit and warm smile were among his nicest qualities. The one time I remember that his smile disappeared is when his daughter, Elaine, passed away. We didn't see him too often after that sad time, but I did run into him at a store where he introduced me to his wife, Ann. That same gentle man and his warm smile were still there. My sincere condolences to the family- my prayers are with you. I hope he sees my mother in heaven- she will enjoy his friendship once more.

The 101st Airborne Division, are dear to my heart. My special uncle was a paratrooper, killed in the Holland Market Garden Operation in Oct. 1944, and buried there until years later his body brought home. God bless John for his service, and his family, at this time.
