I found this obituary only today. I am sorry to hear of Mr Firth's passing. In the late '60s Susie and I dated and I visited the Firth home frequently. John and his wife were kind, generous people and I liked them a lot. I knew Allen briefly. When he received orders to Vietnam with the USMC, I loaned him my Randall fighting knife that I had carried in Germany.

My condolences to the Firth family.

I am sorry I could not attend the funeral services for PopPop, I have many memories of his kindness and generosity. He was a great father-in-law.

Pop-Pop, I finally overcame my aversion to seafood. But I still won't eat my pizza crusts. I'll miss eating mint chocolate chip ice cream with you and talking about the farm. Thank you for the last 37 years of memories: Christmas Tree hunts, Easter Brunch, Craw-dading, Florida summers, Cider pressing, leaf raking, roast beef-carving, buckwheat pancakes on the BlueRidge, swimming holes, respect for the flag and "No shoes on the couch!" You will be missed in a Grand way. You will be remembered often. Thank you for being my Pop-Pop!
I love you always, your granddaughter, Helena

Dear Poppop,
Thank you for all the memories...tractor rides, hay rides, getting Christmas trees, feeding the cows, bailing hay and having the coolest barn. I will miss you.
Love, your oldest grandchild...Dorothy

Poppop,
I am so grateful that I got to spend the last week of your life with you. You have left my sisters and I with so many wonderful memories; tractor rides, getting Christmas trees, feeding the cows and giving us a pony named Hillbillie.
I will miss you and always love you.
Love, your oldest grandchild...

Those cigars are probably the reason I love the smell of tobacco but hate the smoke. A scratchy beard and a throaty "Hmmph". Goodbye Poppop.
