John Fussell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 31, 2024.
John brought his charm, good looks, and a sincere interest in those around him to every gathering. The room was brighter and the laughter was louder whenever he was present. A loyal friend, he was always ready to lend a hand when help was needed. Like his Dad, John was an animal magnet. Any animal in his presence knew they had found a kind and sympathetic soul.

John loved sports, particularly football, forming lifelong ties with his teammates from Shenandoah Junior High and Coral Gables High School in Miami. He graduated from Florida International University with a Master's Degree in Public Administration, and spent his career in public service for the people of Miami-Dade County.

He was born November 6, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia, and for reasons we may never understand, John chose to leave this life on April 30, 2024. From all of us who love you John, we hope your peace has come. Thank you for sharing both the good and not so good times with us during your 66 trips around the sun. You will not be forgotten.

John is survived by his longtime partner, Geraldine "Deanie" Greene, his mother Elizabeth Armstrong, his stepmother Barbara Fussell, his sisters Anne Stone (Clinton Stone) and Kathryn Fussell, and extended family including aunts, cousins and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from noon until 4:00 p.m. at the War Veterans' Memorial Park, 9600 Bay Pines Boulevard, St. Petersburg, Florida 33708, Shelter #5.

Although I only knew John slightly, my husband, Captain Mike Lamphear, always spoke very highly of him. I'm sure Mike was one of the first to greet him at the gates to heaven. My sympathy to his family. May he rest peacefully in the hands of his creator.
