John Galloway Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 22, 2024.
The Reverend Dr. John T. Galloway, Jr., passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024 at the

age of 82. John was a third-generation Presbyterian minister who faithfully served

churches in Greenwich, CT; Spencerport, NY; York, Pittsburgh and Wayne, PA over a

career that spanned more than 40 years.

John was a dedicated teacher, leader, and brilliant preacher whose sermons were

rooted in a deep theological understanding and an appreciation for story. They were

insightful, thought-provoking, and often sprinkled with humor.

John was educated at Princeton University and Princeton Theological Seminary. He

was an avid reader, and thrice published author. He was a lifelong sports "Phanatic" of

the Philadelphia Phillies and Penn State Nittany Lions.

Above all, John cherished family. He was a loving husband, brother, father and

grandfather. Affectionately known as "Revvie" (short for Reverend), he was warm,

encouraging and always funny.

John is survived by his wife Nancy Galloway, sister Harlene DeMarco (Ken), son Scott

(Monica) Galloway, daughters Christie DiPietro (Mark) and Katherine Kubat (Keith),

grandchildren Beach, Brody and Bella Galloway, Susanna and Stephanie DiPietro, and

Chase Kubat, stepdaughter Kathleen (Sam) Lathrop and their sons, Jack and Craig,

and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife,

Susan Hall Galloway,

A celebration of John's life will be held at Wayne Presbyterian Church on June 29th. In

Best preacher ever. Fox Chapel Presbyterian was blessed to have him lead us. We still remember the sermon title " Who put the whammy on Jim and Tammy" referencing televangelists Jim and Tammy Baker. If we heard this once, we heard it a million times regarding his sermons: "I swear he was talking just to me!" Well done good and faithful servant. We were fortunate to have known you! Sincere condolences. Members of First Presbyterian Church were just informed of his passing yesterday. I will never forget John. His sermons always moved me and filled my heart with the idea of possibilities. Brilliant writer, formidable public speaker, great human being.

Aw I am so sorry. I am just seeing this and all my thoughts and prayers are with Scott and his family. I last saw Rev Galloway when Susan was still alive and I transferred my membership from 1st Presby York to Wayne Presby. I am so broken hearted to hear of his passing. Love Spencer Carr and family.

The Witwer's send our sincerest condolences to you all. John was a friend from 1958. Attended his first sermon, "Don't make excuses, just do it."
Nancy, thank you for taking care of John. He was very blessed to have you.

I always remember with affection and grateful heart John Jr and his Father John. I served at Wayne Church my senior year at Princeton Seminary. I received great insight from both of these outstanding pastors. My prayers are with the Galloway family.

So many wonderful memories of the Galloway´s while they lived in Fox Chapel, PA. I still have his sermons on cassette to listen to. I loved the whole family and he and Susan were a wonderful couple. I remember so many of his sermons as his writing and presentation brought things to light in your life. The years he was at FCPC were some of the best of my life. No one was able to fill his shoes. Well done good and faithful servant. Rest in Heaven and Rejoice!

John and Nancy were very kind to my late wife during her illness. On two occasions, he came to our home to pray with her. She was very grateful, as am I for his friendship.
May his gentle soul rest in the arms of Our Savior.
