John Ganaway Obituary

GANAWAY, JOHN "CAPT. JOHNNY" A retired boat pilot with Verret Shipyard with more than 30 years of service, he died at 1:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 61 and a resident and native of Plaquemine. Visiting was at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m., led by Mary Altazan. Visiting at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Monday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, celebrated by the Rev. Cleo Milano. Interment in Grace Memorial Park. Survived by his parents, Arthur and Ida Mae Brooks Ganaway, Plaquemine; three children, Suzette Ganaway and boyfriend Tory Landry, John Mike and wife Heaven Ganaway and Alice Ganaway and boyfriend Billy Chapman, all of Plaquemine; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Henry Melancon, Brusly, Sallie and A.J. Barbier, Plaquemine, Mary and Dane Hebert, Brusly, Patricia and Bern Ebert, South Sioux City, S.D., Audry and Jeffery Martinez, Plaquemine, and Julie Morgan and David Skilliter, Long Beach, Calif.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Vickie Ganaway, Plaquemine, Joseph R. and Ruth Ganaway, Livingston, and Paul and Katie Ganaway, Plaquemine; six grandchildren, Shawn Ganaway, Ce'Leste Ganaway, Tyler Ganaway, Shane Ganaway, Floyd Williams III and Adam Williams; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John Mike Ganaway, Billy Chapman, Paul Ganaway, Joseph R. Ganaway, Ted Verret, Boyd Verret, Dale Lively and Dan Hebert. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Ganaway and Bern Ebert. Thank you to family, friends and the Verret family for everything they have done.
