John Edward Gibson Jr.

1935 - 2017 John Edward Gibson, Jr., known fondly as Jack, died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on July 22, 2017. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, Jack and his family later moved to Davenport, Iowa, where he played trumpet in the band. He attended Carleton College in Minnesota, and then M.I.T., earning degrees in Physics and Aeronautical Engineering. After college, Jack traveled to California and worked at Northrop Grumman and the RAND Corporation. Happiest when his brain was engaged, Jack was known for his keen insight and curiosity, for his problem-solving knack and for his ability to tell a well-timed joke. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Jack is survived by his wife Carole, the love of his life to whom he was married for 54 years; by his children John (Laura) and Kathryn (Gary); grandson Owen; granddaughters Riley, Katrina, and Eliana; nieces Christin, Kirsten, and Diana; nephews Per and Sten; and many devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ebba and J. Edward Gibson, and by his sister, Nancy Satterberg Desonier.
