I am so sorry to hear about this news. I extend my sincerest condolences to John's family. He was a great pioneer of our field. The meeting he organized over decades, the Ionospheric Effects Symposium, was a critical meeting for me and my colleagues here at JPL. He was extremely encouraging to me through my early to mid career and he helped advance our science. He was very friendly and enthusiastic. I believe he made a significant difference to our country as well as internationally. It is always inspiring to work with someone like John.

I wish to convey my most sincere condolence to John's family. I had the pleasure to meet him several times during the Ionospheric Effects Symposia he organised. He was a great person and a very fine scientist. As a believer, I am sure that he is now enjoying the peace of the eternal life in the presence of God.

I am very sorry to learn of John's passing. I knew him primarily through the Ionospheric Effects Symposium, and also through various work assignments. When I first met him, I was in awe because he was one of the leaders in our field. Yet, he was very encouraging and supportive of me back when I was young (and did not know that many people.) He was such a bright presence in our field. My thoughts and prayers. Anthea Coster

I am shocked and saddened by this news and offer my prayers and condolences to the Goodman family. John was a great contributor and proponent of our ionospheric research community who established a triennial meeting that became the standard for interactions between scientists and research managers and sponsors, the Ionospheric Effects Symposium. He will be mourned and missed by so many who remember him as a great scientist, communicator, entrepreneur, colleague and friend.
