John Guerre Obituary

Published by San Diego Union-Tribune on Dec. 17, 2013.
Guerre, John S. CARDIFF -- John S. Guerre passed away peacefully at home in Cardiff, CA on December 7, 2013. He was born March 21, 1929 in Hollywood, CA to Louis and Elizabeth Guerre, first of five children. He was a Navy veteran and served in WWII (1946-1949) and again in Korea (1951- 1952). After his military service, he graduated from USC and soon after married his wife of 55 years, Agnes. They had two children, John and Patrick, and five grandchildren. John worked two jobs much of his life - one as the Western Regional Manager of National Accounts for Somerset Importers and one at the Del Mar Race Track. John was a devoted father and husband and always found time to enjoy his family. He had a passion for photographing nature, especially the Southwest. He had a great respect for the Native American cultures, especially that of the Hopi. John was active in his parish of over 25 years, Saint Bernardine, in Woodland Hills, CA. After moving to Cardiff, he continued his volunteer work as a docent at the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA. John will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was a big man with a bigger heart and an amazing ability of humorous storytelling that enriched us all. John is survived by his wife Agnes, sons John and Patrick, brothers James and Michael, sister Mary, five grandchildren and many other cousins, nephews and nieces. His brother Charles preceded him in death. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church in Encinitas, CA.
