John Christopher Hamm

John Christopher Hamm UPPER John Christopher Hamm, Bayou Vista, TX was called home by his heavenly Father on February 21, 2024. He was born May 26, 1966 to parents Linda James and John Robert Hamm.

John graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1984; and the Police Academy in 1988. He started his 34-year law enforcement career in the city of Hitchcock, TX from 1989 until 1992.

John went to work for the city of Stafford, TX in 1992 as a police officer and was instrumental in the development of the Motor Patrol Unit; where he worked as a Motor Patrol Officer for 12 years of his service years there. Loving it because he could ride his beloved Harley.

John returned to his hometown police department of Hitchcock in 2010 as was promoted to Sergeant. He was honored as Officer of the Year in 2014; and promoted to Chief of Police of Hitchcock where he excelled from 2014 until 2018.

John joined the Galveston County Sheriff's Office as Sergeant in 2018. He was injured in the line of duty in May 2022 when he was struck by a drunk driver while directing traffic.

On September 11, 2023, John was presented The Star of Texas by Governor Greg Abbott in Austin, TX While John tried to recover, it was later discovered that the trauma caused more serious injuries which eventually took his life.

John is survived by his wife and soulmate, Jill Thomas Hamm; step-children, Brittany Jenkins and Justin Jenkins; Brothers David (Kristin) Evans and Ryan O'Dom; parents Linda James Alvarez and John Robert Hamm; many cousins, nieces and nephews and many members on both sides of his family; and All of his Law Enforcement Brothers and Sisters and lifelong Special Friends.

2 Timothy 4:7....."I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the Faith."
