John William
Hedlund

John was born in McMinnville, Oregon on December 5, 1949 to Paul & Marilyn (Evans) Hedlund.

He grew up in the country, where he developed a life-long appreciation for nature. He attended Willamina Grade School until his father's work led the family to Lebanon, Oregon. John attended Lebanon schools, including Lebanon Union High School. His family relocated to Springfield, Oregon and he graduated from Springfield High School in 1968.

John served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, trained as a Pharmacy Technician, stationed in Texas & California. When he returned to civilian life, he worked in the lumber industry in Cottage Grove, Eugene & Springfield. John was a pharmacy technician for Bi-mart in the Eugene-Springfield communites for many years. John enjoyed the great outdoors (camping & fishing). He demonstrated patience & compassion with children; and he enjoyed animals.

John passed away on October 10, 2016, as a result of liver & renal failure, following a lengthy and valiant battle.

John is survived by two sisters, Teri Sanders of Junction City and Judy Ivey of Springfield; Two stepsons, Jim Hedlund & Troy Russell both of Eugene; 8 grandchildren; nieces & nephews; great nieces & nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins.

No public memorial is planned according to John's wishes. The family expresses appreciation to all the professionals and others along the way who provided care, concern and friendship to John.

Oh Judy, I'm so sorry to see this. I know how important you were in John's life and that he'll be missed. I was glad to have spent time with him and through that, meet you. Take good care. Susan S. (GVR)
