John Hession Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2025.
John Joseph Hession, 35, passed away on September 8, 2025, in Kirkland, Washington. Born on April 16, 1990, in Melrose, Massachusetts, John lived a life marked by courage, commitment, and compassion.

He graduated from Hamilton-Wenham High School in 2008 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of New Hampshire. From an early age, John was known for his boundless energy and determination-qualities that would define both his personal and professional life.

In 2014, John fulfilled a long-held dream by joining the U.S. Army as an Army Ranger. He served with distinction in the elite 75th Ranger Regiment and deployed multiple times to Afghanistan as part of special operations missions. His service to his country was a source of immense pride and reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Following his military service, John transitioned into a successful career in technology. He worked at CDW as a Senior Consulting Software Engineer, where he quickly distinguished himself as one of the top 5% of employees in the company. Known for his reliability and unwavering support for his team members and clients, John brought the same dedication to his work that he had shown throughout his military career.

John had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in hiking and exploring nature. He especially cherished time spent with his two beloved dogs, Rowdy and Sadie, often taking them on long walks and visits to local parks. An avid athlete throughout his life, John excelled in high school playing football and baseball. He remained a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Patriots, and the Celtics.

He is survived by his father Thomas D. Hession of Brunswick, ME; his mother Maura C. Hession of Tiverton, RI; and his sister Joanna C. Hession (Kyle Donovan) of Bridgewater, MA, along with their son Joseph C. Donovan. John's extended family includes many aunts and uncles: Leo Hession (Roxanna), Gail Dennig, Frances Rafferty (Thomas Millett), Teresa White (Jon Davis), Regina Rafferty, Kathleen Ell, Susan Rafferty Lehn (David Lehn), Brigid Rafferty (Jonathan Jeffreys), and Matthew Rafferty (Jacqueline). He is also remembered fondly by numerous cousins: Catherine Quantranno, Thomas Millett, Toireasa Millett, Colin Shane, Nicolas Shane, Gregory White, Briana White, Matthew White, Jenna Ell, Jacqueline Rose Ell, Kyle Lehn, Rachel Lehn, Emma Lehn, Alex Rafferty, Anna Rafferty, Sam Rafferty, Seren Jeffreys, Kristen Sargeant, Brian Sargeant, Tracey Sargeant, and Jack Hession.

John was predeceased by his grandparents Leo Hession Sr. and Jean Hession; Francis X. Rafferty and Barbara H. Rafferty; as well as his uncle Peter Hession; aunt Ann Marie Rafferty; uncle Randall Sargeant; and uncle Phil Mason Jr.. Each held a special place in John's heart.

Those who knew John will remember him for his enormous smile that could light up any room and an incredible sense of humor that brought laughter to countless moments. His passion for life was evident in everything he did-from serving his country with honor to excelling in his career and embracing the simple joys of nature with his dogs by his side.

John was a beloved son, brother, uncle-and a friend to many. His strength of character and warmth will remain etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.

May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn him and serve as a lasting tribute to a life lived with purpose and heart. An interment will be held on October 6, 2025, at 12:45 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Buzzards Bay, MA 02542. Reception to follow after. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Army Ranger Lead the Way Fund (https://www.leadthewayfund.org) in John's honor, continuing his legacy of care and generosity.

John was one of the first people who I interacted with when I started at CDW. He was training us on how to code and introducing us to concepts and technologies that I still use everyday. Beyond training there were numerous times when he set aside time to help myself and others on troubled projects, never giving up until the problems were solved. While I did not have the privilege of knowing him beyond our work environment, I am still incredibly blessed to have had someone so reliable and kind as a colleague and mentor. I pray for everyone he left behind in this troubling time. He will be dearly missed

Maura, Peggy and I were so sad to hear of John's passing. The death of a child is the heaviest burden a parent can ever carry, but I know you have many who care deeply for you and will help you bear the weight.

I had the pleasure of working alongside John for the past several years. He was a good coworker; he was a good person. I got to see him develop skills both technically in his job role but also in his interpersonal skills. He progressed quickly and really delivered a lot of value to his team and his customers. I think my biggest takeaway is that John had a positive impact on everyone around him. I consider that a privilege to have been a part of and a truly unfortunate loss for all of us.

Dear Family of John Hession,
I had the privilege of working with John in late 2021 through 2024 when I first joined CDW and we shared many stories of the great outdoors. He was a genius and always willing to go that extra mile to help. His humor and enthusiasm for life will always stay with me. My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of John. He will truly be missed by many.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend, mentor, and coworker. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering willingness to help others left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He led with grace, served with humility, and inspired with quiet strength.

Though he is no longer with us in body, we trust in God´s promise that he now rests in eternal peace. May his legacy of compassion and service live on in all of us. Heaven has truly gained a faithful soul.

Rest well, dear friend. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
