A service at Warsop Parish Church preceded cremation at Mansfield of Mr John Henry (Jack) Hinchcliffe (82), of The Willows, Church Street, Warsop.
During the service a cd was played of Mr Hinchcliffe singing two of his favourite songs - 'Slow boat to China' and 'All of Me' - and special poems written by granddaughters Sara and Kylie were read by his grandson, Chris, who was also one of the pall bearers with grandson Liam.
Life-long local resident Mr Hinchcliffe was born and educated at Warsop, attending both Hetts Lane and Birklands schools. He played football for the Dukeries and was a member of the Boys' Brigade.
Towards the end of the Second World War he served in the Army, spending four years in Egypt and being promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant. For many years he worked in the transport industry bus driving and lorry driving before finally working for Bowman's Transport until his retirement in 1991.
In his younger days he regularly sang in the local pubs and clubs and for a while was vice-president of Warsop Ex-Servicemen's Club where he also taught ballroom dancing. Mr Hinchcliffe was also a member of the British Caledonian Society, and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His others interests included singing, dancing, travelling, horse racing and watching football.
Mr Hinchcliffe, who died at Nottingham City Hospital, leaves two daughters, Pam and Ann-Marie, sons-in-law Mick and Kevin, daughter-in-law Sue, grandchildren, Sara, Chris, Kylie, Liam, Lisa and Joanne, great-grandchildren, Lucie, Ryan and Lauren and two his sisters, Ada and Lucy. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Eileen in 1980 and his step-son Patrick in 2008.
