John E. Hockett, 78, of Pensacola, passed away Friday, November 08, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 4, 1935 in Terre Haute, Indiana to John W. F. and Grace Wood Hockett, he resided locally for many years. Retiring after 37 years of dedicated work with NAS Public Works, he was very active in his community. He was a member of Eastern Star Ensley Chapter 244; a 32nd degree Mason, West Pensacola Lodge 296 where he held the position of Worshipful Master; Hadji Shriner, Yorkrite and Scottish Rite; advisor to International Rainbow for Girls and a board member in his church, Living Word of Faith. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Preceded in death are his son, William Donald Hockett; brother, Paul Hockett and a sister, Sarah Hockett.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ruth; children, Sarah Richardson (Rich), Linda Phillips, John Paul Hockett (Hilary), Barbara Baker, Brandon Chester (Kelley) and Stephen Chester; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home until services begin at 11:00 a.m.
Interment, with Masonic Rites, will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

I will always remember him as Grandpa to all the rainbow girls and there familys. He was such a sweet man, with a big heart and always had a smile for everyone. He will be deeply missed.

John was "Grandpaw" to all our girls and a loving friend to all of us. I can't even begin to imagine what it's going to be like without him being there with us. He had such a big heart, and his Masonic Family and Rainbow Girls held a large part if it. We love him so much and are going to greatly miss him.
