My condolences are very late, but Dr. Hogan's wit and enthusiasm in the early morning set the tone for my day. I'm so glad I got to know him <3

I am too sad. We sang, we laughed, we signed (alphabet for the deaf) in Loretto´s lobby. And so cheerful! I have thought of him often over many years and feel I´ve lost a close neighbor though we haven´t been in touch for years. Rest in musical peace, John

I knew John when he was a student at Saint Michaels college at the University of Toronto. I participated in the North Carolina exchange program with him. He was a delightful man with a ready smile and a good word. I lost contact with him as an adult. But my memory of him still brings a smile to my face. Rest in peace, John Hogan. RD - Rick Dollinger

Rest in Peace John.
My brother John left this world early January 3 after an incredible long and difficult fight with cancer.
This picture was taken about 2 years ago in Sedona AZ, where he hiked much further than he should have, laughed hard at all our stupid jokes and was excited to just be there.... we all had so much fun. I will always have him in my heart --- my big brother --- I am so proud of you. Once I get past all the tears, my thoughts of you will always come with smiles.... so many wonderful conversations, so much fun, so many stories. You will be a part of me forever. Love you John.

John was as sincere as he was irreverent. You always knew what John thought, and his words were usually delivered with a wry smile. I have known John since our time at CUA, and we both enjoyed watching our families grow. I loved that guy and his absence will be long felt.

Dr. Hogan was a reassuring presence at Stone Ridge, even beyond being in his class. He was always delightful to run into and have a chat with, genuinely interested in how you were doing. In the classroom, his combination of serious intellect, faith, and ability to joke around put us at ease and made even hard assignments and dense content more approachable. Such a gifted educator and radiant human being.

In high school we were in a musical group called the Scarborough Fair. John was a bright light, a vigorous guitarist, a fine singer and a person who always enjoyed a good laugh. He contributed his very best to everything he did, and he made the world a better place while he was with us.

Dr. Hogan was such a wonderful teacher. He challenged us - I don´t know many people who learned about Joseph Campbell´s monomyth of the hero in high school. Or know what the words "exegesis of pericope" mean. But we learned that with Dr. Hogan in high school theology class at Stone Ridge. I also felt incredibly seen and accepted by Dr. Hogan - his humor and teasing were clear signals of his caring and that meant a lot to me. With gratitude for his life and service.

John was not only a fine student but also an enlivening, fun presence during his doctoral work at CUA.

Who among John's colleagues in his early days at Stone Ridge will forget his wooing of Ginny and his fantastic proposal? We already knew what a fine teacher he was; our mutual students told us, but we learned what a romantic and imaginative heart he had as well. I feel blessed to have known this lovely man and send deepest sympathy to Ginny, Oliver, and Victoria.

He knew what to say. Whether it was my having a crisis of faith or nervously about to be escorted down the aisle to be married--he used humor as a teaching/calming tool. He listened so well. So many memories.

So John, was this transition as easy as you and Meggie (older sister) getting me to jump off the garage roof into the pile of leaves- more than once?
