He was an excellent C.O. on the USS Ingraham. His crew had utmost respect for him. After over 50 years out of the USN, I still keep him in my mind as a great example of a respected man.

Johnny, you outlived them all! What a blessing and to have Betty by your side for so long then Betsy, lucky. Your kids were Lucky too for them to have you and Betty in their lives for so long. You will be missed, friend, neighbor, and someone I looked up to......Wayne

Oh, Johnny! The majority of your last 26,208 hours (3 years) was spent with me hovering around, trying to keep you between the buoy's of life....you sure lived life full tilt boogie. Loved by sweet Betty Clarkson Holmes till her dying breath, you on one side holding her hand, I on the other. Then OUR adventures together began in earnest, intensely, immediately. I was scared. How on God's green earth were the aging hippie chick and THE CAPTAIN going to get on together? But we did, and often quite splendidly. I learned to love you thru Sandy and William Goodling's eyes, and was supported unconditionally by John III, Teresa and Rogers. Your mind was as deep as the oceans you sailed, your wit as sharp as the crack of gunfire from your shotguns, and your desire to help and be no burden was there into your very last hours....I on one side holding your hand, Yankee Linda on the other, and your son John there, praying you safe passage into Heaven. You came to trust and love me, for you told me so. And for this, and being brought into your circle of friends and family, I am truly blessed. My life is changed for the better. I am eternally grateful. Give Betty and Neese a kiss and a hug from me. I miss y'all so much....Pax Christi...till we meet again, dear friend....

Captain Johnny,
Eternal thanks and gratitude for nearly 50 years of heartfelt friendship with you and Miss Betty. Always a wide-eyed, fun adventure from going mach 5 on the Venus Baby, to swimming laps at the BAC, to tackling home repair projects at 81 5th., to watching golf on the cinema sized TV,to the thrilling rides to Singleton's to Hobie Cat racing, etc. A lifetime of grand memories for us. You are greatly missed.
