I have fond recollections of John. He entertained us at my mother's wedding reception. I remember his broad smile as he played and we danced. My deepest condolences to his wonderful wife Helena and his children.

My condolences to the family of Mr. Hughes for your loss. Mr. Hughes was an incredible man, and my life is richer for having known him. May the One who is Everpresent bring comfort to his family and loved ones.

A long, long time ago, I played a dance job with John Hughes. One gig. 60 years ago? 70? Pittsburgh? Washington, PA? Two things I can tell you. John Hughes was a great guy. And rarely does one enjoy the solidity of a collaboration with such a worthy musician. I send heartfelt condolences to John's loving family.

In the 24 years I lived there, not a single important party at the Chatham president's home happened that was not graced by John's talent, warmth and joy. He made a great difference time after time and will be missed.
