John Henry Hustus, Sr., age 87, passed away on April 7, 2025, in Cleveland, TN. Born on February 18, 1938. John dedicated 20 years of service to the U.S. Army, where his expertise as a cook was highly valued. His military career included significant periods during the Vietnam and Korean Wars, reflecting his deep commitment to his country. After retiring from the military, he continued his culinary career at the Commissary on Langley Air Force Base.

John was known for his bubbly personality and his joy in cooking, which he often used to bring smiles to those around him. He was a cherished member of the Fox Hill Road Baptist Church in Hampton, VA, and an active participant in the American Legion, Hampton, VA.

His personal life was enriched by his hobbies which included playing poker, shooting pool, cooking, and fishing. John and his wife Dawn made Hampton, VA their home for over 40 years, creating countless memories.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn M. Hustus, and a loving family including his children Patricia Mullis (Martin), Robert Hustus, Tommy Hustus (Kathy), and John Hustus Jr. (Sheri); stepson Daniel Sosnowski (Kori); step-granddaughter Renee Anderson (Kyle); granddaughter Skyler Hustus; and great-granddaughter Aurora Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Bradway and Crist Hustus; stepdaughter Danette Clack; stepson Michael Sosnowski; and step-granddaughter Sissy Clack.

A viewing was April 10, 2025, at 4 PM in Cleveland, TN. A private graveside memorial service was held. John's life and service will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
