John "Jack" McCartan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 27, 2015.
John "Jack" F. McCartan, 78, of Enumclaw, passed away Saturday April 25, 2015 at Enumclaw Health Care & Rehab. He was born May 5, 1936 in Butte, Montana to John and Loretta McCartan.

Jack, the oldest of 6 siblings, was raised in Butte, Montana where he attended Boys Central High School until his father died when he was just 16. He then transferred and graduated from Butte High School where he met his soon to be wife Carlene Sparks. The couple married and had their first 2 children in Butte. As a young man, employment opportunities with Westinghouse Electric brought Jack and his young family to the Pacific Northwest where their last 3 children were born in Oregon. Life in the Northwest was good for Jack. He spent a lot of time fishing, hunting and camping in the Northwest wilderness. A true family man, he thrilled us with his garlic cream cheese dip, stuffed mushrooms, and on a lucky day, his famous old-fashioned fudge. Even at the end he could be charmed with good old Butte pasties. He was also known for playing a mean hand of cribbage! It was tradition that he taught his grandchildren so they could continue the fun for years to come. He played, and won, until the very end of his time with us. He spent his entire career in the industrial electrical world. Jack was especially proud of his Irish Catholic heritage. He achieved his goal of traveling to Ireland and was able to spend time there with loved family. Retirement found Jack moving on to Washington State to be closer to family. He eventually moved up to Enumclaw to live near his son Bill and daughter in-law Kim.

Jack is survived by his children, Kimberlee McCartan, Daniel McCartan, Martin McCartan (Bev), Kristina Healy and William McCartan (Kim); grandchildren, McKenzie, Stacie, Rian, Chad, Caitlin, Shanay, Jessica, Jason, Nicole and Thomas; and siblings, William McCartan, Joanita Munoz and Thomas McCartan. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Loretta; and brothers, James McCartan and Joseph McCartan.

A funeral service for Jack will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 2nd at Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 E. 12th St., Vancouver, Washington 98660. Viewing will be at 10:00 AM, prior to the funeral service.
