My condolances to Janet and Howard's family. Howard has had a significant influence on me as I was a junior Professor at Université de Montréal working on the Montreal occupational cancer project directed by Jack Siemiatycki. He helped us put some science and realism in the "guesswork" involved in assessing past exposures of workers to potential carcinogens. We published with him as a coauthor a paper in 1985 in the Journal of Occupational Medicine. I also remember fondly conversations on art and music, and he was also interested in the hot political context in Quebec and Canada at the time, always with a very open mind.
I will cherish these memories.

My sincere condolence to Howard Kemper's family. I worked with Howard from 1982 to 1986 on Jack Siemiatycki's research team (Jack was professor at Armand-Frappier Institute in Laval (Quebec) at that time. He is now at Universite de Montreal). Howard and I shared the same office which was located at IRSST (505, De Maisonneuve Street West, 11th Floor). Howard had retired from Domtar and worked with Jack's team on an epidemiological research project concerning occupational cancer in relation to chemical exposure. I learned a lot from Howard's experience at Domtar. His knowledge of the canadian chemical industry in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s served us well as we had to reconstruct past occupational chemical exposure of workers with cancer. I will always remember Howard as a kind, thoughtful and affable individual.
Sincerely,
Denis Begin, chemist and industrial hygienist
