John did so much for Athens and it's environment. He was so generous with his time, sharing his extensive knowledge of the plants, geography, and history of the area with any who were interested. John's work getting areas set aside for conservation will benefit generations of Athens citizens and visitors, who will never know all the work he put in and all the good that they enjoy because of his efforts. We were blessed to have him in our midst.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was a high school classmate of John . I have followed his nature endeavors on facebook for years. His unique humor will be missed. May he rest in peace in a beautiful setting he loved.

John was my "little" brother, even if he was taller than me! I used to translate for him when he was about 2 years old; no one else could understand him, so they all depended on me. Did I really know what he was saying? I'm not sure but he never objected so I guess I got it right most of the time! I remember trying to teach him to dance while in High School...and I gotta say, he definitely wouldn't have done well on Dancing with the Stars. But he tried, and that's the main thing. He was 15 months younger than me so this is hard for me and my older sister. Love you always, John!

This is a beautiful tribute to your Dad. What a generous and graceful life he lived. I knew him through Paddlewheel many years ago. Praying for him and you!
