John was to say the least, a most unusual man. What a privilege to have known him for over 50 years. Music's not the same without you John, nor are many other things. Thanks man, you saved my life.

He was no less than one of the most remarkable men I ever met. And a great sailor which in itself says legions. I can still hear your musical voice; rest in peace my freind.

He was a clear and lucid mind. I deeply admired his intelligent and humble way of addressing and solving technical problems. A rare man.

I did not know John as a co-worker, friend, band mate, mate, brother, father, or grandfather. I knew John through a child's eyes. He was a friend of my parents in their youth. During their evenings of merry- making there was much laughter and music while his son and I scampered around first clad in diapers later in overalls I am sure causing trouble. My memory is that he was always gentle of touch and tone, eyes crinkling, with a warm smile. I cannot imagine how his loss will affect your family. I am so very sorry.
