Jack was a wonderful host for visiting S&F fans when they visited Minneapolis for MinnCons in the 1970s. I was among the beneficiaries of Jack's hospitality. I renewed my acquaintance with Jack when he was Guest of Honor at the Walden West Festival in Sauk City WI in 2011. I knew Jack had faced health challenges in recent years, so I am very glad I got to renew my acquaintance with him in 2011. Just this past year, he sent me copies of his wonderful new books "The Lovecraft Circle" and "Ghost Stories" from Battered Silicon Dispatch Box. I join all Jack's friends and readers in sending condolences to his family on his passing.

Jackal-the world is a darker place without you in it. Heaven will be brighter because you're there. Save a place for those you love that you know will be joining you. Mine a log home with a wrap around porch, fireplace, loft, with a stream running close to it, with enough rooms for friends to visit. A good cook wouldn't hurt. Fellowship, fun, and food surrounded by God's Word would be the best. Save our places Jackal. You know who i'm talking about. See you soon when God calls me/us home. love you.

Jackal, for a short time you will be missed, as will our many phone calls, e-mails, your insight. Thankfully, i'll get another shot at it, as i'll see you in heaven. We've known each other since '62, seems like an eternity. You and the Magpies played great music while Led and I held each other close, danced and fell in love. "Oh, What A Night" My friend this is the just the beginning as we'll be neighbors in heaven. Save a spot for me. Get your keyboard ready and we'll do a duet. "Absent from the body, present with the Lord" Love you Jackal.

I knew Jack from when we worked at SJ Groves and Sons. I was just amazed at his talent and book about Sinclair Lewis. Special guy. Rest in peace.

John (you were ALWAYS John to Ralph and me), we had some really hilarious times and you were kind enough to include some of my photos in your Sinclair Lewis book. I have a feeling you and Ralph are laughing and revisiting good times in Heaven. See ya later, my friend.

Kobie my boy, we always had a bet; I won but I lost. Lately it seems like it's hard to see the sun but easy to feel the rain and the pain. I'll leave the rest for your eulogy; see you then, I know you'll be in the air, smiling down upon us. If I can make a request, please sing Diamonds & Pearls for us. Till it's my turn, ol' buddy, you'll be easy on my mind, knowin' how bad I'll miss just picking up the phone and hearing the wind chimes of your voice. Rest easy, Jackson.

Jack and I worked together on the horror fiction convention Arcana (of which he was a founder when it was called Minn-Con) and the Western convention Con-Sarnit (of which he was a mainstay). I was very impressed by his writing, his range and depth of knowledge, his warmth and humor. I wish we'd spent more time together but I will treasure memories of the times we worked together and the times we chatted on the phone.

Words cannot express the loss of such a dear man. While he has retired along with his 'favorite pen' of great writings, he did leave them behind for us all to enjoy - and we are blessed with his legacy. My prayers to his family that he so loved. It was an honor to know Jack, and I shall miss him dearly.

We have lost a very important man, one who know and studied history. History that he wrote down for us, what a great legacy to leave behind. Hard to replace a person like that. Ruth, Harkin Store
