John Koroluk Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 20 to May 21, 2010.
John W. Koroluk December 22, 1923 May 18, 2010 With great sorrow the family of John Koroluk announces his passing on May 18, 2010, one day prior to his 59th wedding anniversary. John was born on the farm of Wasyl and Jenny (Dzuba) Koroluk near Hyas, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his father (1981), mother (1984) and a brother, Paul and a sister, Anne in infancy. John was the oldest of seven children. He is survived by his wife, Pearl (Wasylyk); and three sons: Ronald (Linda) and grandson, Matthew; Lorne (Sherril) and Daryl (Janine). He is also survived by his sister, Helen (Nestor) Tymryk; brothers, Anton (Rose), William (Joyce), and Peter (Mary); along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He touched many young lives during a 36 year teaching career which started in a small rural school at Zukunft north of Mikado and continued in Stornoway, Rama and Preeceville. From 1956-1983 he taught at Sturgis Composite School where he also served as vice-principal for five years. He superannuated in 1983 and moved to Saskatoon to enjoy retirement. In his younger years John was an avid sports enthusiast participating in baseball, curling, golf and basketball. In retirement he was able to enjoy bowling, golf and gardening. John was actively involved in community activities in Sturgis; he served as fastball coordinator for Sturgis Sports and Rodeo, town councilor, mayor (1971-1983), recreation board member and minor baseball coach. He also served on the Preeceville Hospital Board for a five year term and as a Saskatchewan Teacher's Federation councilor for the Sturgis School Unit. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic church in Saskatoon and a member of the Knights of Columbus. John was an avid gardener and handyman. His lawn and garden brightened Rao Crescent for many years. His sons treasure many labors of love he crafted with his own hands. He was Mr. Fix-It to them. He instilled in his family and all the young people he taught a strong sense of love, honesty, integrity and fairness. He will be dearly missed by his family and all those who he touched throughout his life. His family wishes to thank his coffee row friends for their fellowship along with the doctors, nurses and staff at Royal University Hospital, City Hospital Transitional Care Unit, Home Care and Primrose Chateau for helping him battle Parkinson's disease. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Canadian Parkinson's Foundation, Box 102 103 Hospital Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0W8. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from Park Funeral Chapel (311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK), with Rev. Fr. Dmytro Dnistrian, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. To send online condolences to the family, visit www.parkfuneral.ca . Arrangements entrusted to Greg Lalach.
