John Kramer Obituary
March 13, 1947 - January 27, 2025
John Kramer of New Vernon, New Jersey passed away due to complications from a form of vasculitis.
He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 13, 1947 and was the only child of Ken and Inez Kramer. As a young child, John's family lived in the Whitefish Bay neighborhood; they later moved to Fox Point.
John was a 1964 graduate of the Milwaukee Country Day School (now the University School of Milwaukee) where he was a member of the ice hockey team. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1968 with a physics degree; he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the downhill ski racing team. He later received an MBA from Wharton.
John had a long and diverse career in marketing which included positions at Pillsbury Foods in Minneapolis, General Foods in New York, Citibank in San Francisco and Chicago, and Dun and Bradstreet which brought him to New Jersey in the early 1990s.
A skier since childhood, in his early 20s he spent a winter in Stowe, VT. He taught his sons to ski at Northstar Lake Tahoe and took his family on trips to numerous mountains including Alpine Meadows, Park City, Deer Valley, Whistler-Blackcomb, and Mad River Glen. He continued to ski into his 70s and enjoyed day trips with his grandsons.
John was an avid fisherman - his pursuits ranged from flyfishing on local streams to surfcasting for striped bass to a sailfish caught off Miami in the mid-1970s.
He was also a hobbyist mechanic known for tackling ambitious automobile repair projects - he particularly enjoyed the intellectual logic of the diagnosis process and found great satisfaction in the identification and correction of an elusive problem.
John is survived by his wife, Stephanie, of more than fifty years, three sons and two grandsons.
The family is planning a private service.
Those wishing to honor John are encouraged to consider a donation to the Great Swamp Watershed Association where he was an enthusiastic and committed volunteer for many years.
