John and I met in a summer workshop at ACT in San Francisco and bonded over our mutual dislike of the tapdance class.

John and I met in the BMI Musical Theater Workshop in NY 40 years ago. We began collaborating on writing musicals. All this time and as I continue to work on our material, I have always known that I was working with the very best lyricist and bookwriter. Here is an excerpt of his lyrics from the musical, The Velveteen Rabbit, which I am working on now:

"You left a space that no one can fill.
We miss you.
Though you are gone, we think of you still.
Think of you now and always will.
Goodbye, goodbye."

Because I had a family, I could not devote as much time as he. I am continuing to compose and have no doubt that our work will be heard. Thank you, John, for all of the great work that you did for our team. I will indeed miss you.

John and I met over 50 years ago in San Francisco where we were both enrolled in a summer course in ACT. Neither of us turned out to be theatrical material, but it was the beginning of a great enduring friendship. We traveled together, argued, shared confidences...Even now, I'll read something and think "I must ask John his opinion", and then I realize I can't
I miss him every day.

John was a "unique" character in the best sense of the word. He could be withering in response to what he considered sloppy ideas or thinking, as when he once labelled a group of academic colleagues as "less than stellar."

May his non-mainstream soul rest in peace.

My husband and I met John when he became a member of our neighborhood group. John was a steady, helpful member and advocate and hosted group meetings in his house, always with one of his adopted dogs sitting in and listening quietly. Getting to know John over the years, we discovered some of his many talents, including music and composing. His observations on the human experience were those of a serious thinker. He was a funny, kind, lovely, creative person. He would enjoy being remembered by this quote from Richard Hofstadter: "It is a poor head that cannot find plausible reason for doing what the heart wants to do."

John and I have know each other a few years. He was kind and always smiling. We had a lot of laughs together. He loved live and wanted to keep living the best way he knew how. John has touched many in his life & will be missed by miss. We love you John!
