John Charles Forsyth Kurie
Mr. Kurie, of Clover, SC, died Saturday, March 11, 2006. He was 95.
Born February 18, 1911 in Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mr. Kurie attended Colorado College. He was vice-president of the M & M Mars Candy Corporation, an executive with the Association of National Advertisers, Look Magazine, and the Hoechst Celanese where he retired in 1972. Upon retirement, he acquired the Mecklenburg Times, Charlotte, NC where he was publisher until his death. He was a member of the Myers Park Country Club, charter member of the Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Chase Econometrics, the Forecaster's Club, and twice president of the American Court and Commercial Newspapers.
He is survived by his wife, Harryett and a sister, Betty Uptegrove, both of Charlotte; son, Jonathan Kurie, M.D., daughter-in-law, Kathryn Boyer Kurie of Houston, TX; daughter, Edith Kurie Smith of Miami, FL; grandson, Bill Smith; and granddaughter, Alexandra Kurie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heritage Foundation, 214 Massachusetts Ave., N.E., Washington, DC 20002-4999.
Interment will be private.
