John Lamoureux Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 24, 2012.
John F. "Jack" Lamoureux was born August 2, 1930 in Akron, Iowa, the youngest son of Leonard Lamoureux and Loretta (Boden) Lamoureux. He attended school there and graduated from Akron High School in 1948. He was very involved in sports and one of the many highlights in high school was being selected to attend Hawkeye (IA) Boys State in summer 1947. He joined the US Marine Corps, received his commission in the US Infantry and was honorably discharged in 1949. He enrolled in college at the University of South Dakota in 1949. He married Rita Ann Dreier, daughter of Helen (Kennedy) Dreier and Jack Dreier on September 6, 1951. Their two oldest children, Renee and Roberta, were born while Jack was at USD. He was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity. He graduated in January 1954. After college his family grew to six children adding Theodore, Timothy, Rise and Regina. Upon graduation, Jack became a field representative for Proctor and Gamble. He moved his family to Minnesota. In August 1956, he joined his friend Pat Rogers in the group health insurance business. When Jack retired as President of Pat Rogers Associates in 1987, the company had become one of the largest brokerage firms in the country with offices in 26 states. He always maintained that the success of the company was due to great partners and the best employees. Jack and Rita moved to Florida in 1978. They became members of Epiphany Cathedral and Jacaranda West Country Club. Jack was an avid golfer both in Minnesota (Wayzata Country Club) and Florida. He had shelves filled with trophies from various tournaments-each with a special story. He also enjoyed a regular gin game with his friends. Jack was known most for his kind and generous spirit. He was a supporter of Loveland Center in Venice, Interfaith Outreach in Minnesota, as well as many college foundations and children's charities. He received numerous accolades for his philanthropy over the years. He was always concerned about the "little guy". He had a heart bigger than life. Jack's two loves were his family and his faith. There was never an obstacle that these two could not conquer. Jack's last few years were filled with health issues and medical miracles. His family counts their blessings that they were able to have him these last two years…years filled with visits from children and grandchildren…years filled with love and laughter. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rita, his six children: Renee and husband Dave Noland of Minnetonka, MN, Robbie and husband Topper Swanson of Denver, CO, Ted and wife Linda of Batesville, AR, Tim of Denver, CO, Rise and husband Lowell Miller of Plymouth, MN and Gina and husband Dan Carlson of Tonka Bay, MN. He also had 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, his sister Barbara of Akron, IA and brother Theodore of Sioux City, IA. He was preceded in death by his daughter Rhonda and his sisters Jody and Polly. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bishop Nevins Scholarship Fund, c/o Epiphany Cathedral, 310 Sarasota Street, Venice, FL 34285 or The Loveland Center, 157 South Havana Road, Venice, FL 34285.
