I've Known Bro. John Lloyd for about 50 years. He was my first Sunday School Teacher after moving to Old Fort as a young Teenager. Bro. John was always the same, anywhere and anytime I met him. We parted ways as I reached adulthood and I began a pastoral ministry in churches away from Old Fort, but his dynamic Christian example was one of the major factors influencing my following God's call to the ministry. An unwavering and consistent Christian and musician, John's influence will be long felt by those whose life he touched, and will be missed and much needed by those who were barely acquainted with him. Heaven is a richer place today because he is there, and our lives are richer for the influences he had on us while he sojourned here.

I attended John's funeral where we celebrated his life on earth and praised God for his new life in Heaven. I recalled all the times I went with my Pa Pa Clarence Lavender to Old Fort to see the Lavender's and was always greeted warmly. Thanks John for always showing your kindness to me and my family

I was glad to see everyone at the funeral this past Saturday in Old Fort. For nearly two hours we celebrated John's life on earth and praised God for John's new life in Heaven. I thought back to all those years I visted the Lavender's in Old Fort with my Pa Pa Clarence Lavender who died in 2002. Good memories from good people all around.

I worked with John for about the last 2 1/2 years. He was a wonderful man & always will be in my heart. I truly admire his never weakaning faith. I learned a lot from John & will always remember his " Yes Maam". He would always lighten up a room when he walked in. I know that he is smiling down on us now happy as can be. I will never forget the wonderful Mr. Lavender.

First all I would like to thank God for getting to know Bro John. He really has touched me and helped me through a low point in my life. Although Bro John is no longer with us, he will always be in my heart. His legacy will live on through the lives of those that he has touched. Bro John always called to check on me and my family with words of wisdom and encouragement. We lost a prayer warrior on July 19th 2010 and now is the time for someone else to step up and take his place. This is not good-bye this is just so long because we will meet again one day. I caught myself praying and asking the LORD to tell Bro John hello.........His friend and Brother in the LORD Bro. Billy Ray Ramseur Sr

We thought the world of John Loyd. He was a good Christian man who let God use him to minister to others. We will never forget the day he came to visit us and our oldest son, Chris, was running a fever of 104. John walked over to the crib, laid hands on him, prayed and the fever left immediately. Chris sat up and started playing. This is just one incident. It's memories like this that we will cherish forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I dont even know where to start but just to say that Heaven is MUCH sweeter with him there. Bro. John was very special to me and my family. I have known Bro. John all my life and I am so thankful to have grew up knowing such a wonderful man. The photos brought many tears and many, many memories. I remember he always called me Heatherine Locklear... :) And he always said I was preaching at Turtle Creek! :) He was a great man of God and I will never forget the times I watched him shout and dance under the power of God! I loved to watch the Lord move on him so strong! He would be in the Spirit so long that his body would get so weak he'd just collapse in his chair. What a man of God he was! Shout on Bro. John-- You'll never get tired anymore!! I could go on and on about the memories I have of the past 26 years but I wont. :) He will be missed so much! I will never forget you Bro. John!! I love you so much!!!
To the Lavender family-- I am truly sorry for the loss! I hope you each one know that you are in my prayers! I am so sorry I couldnt be at the service today. I wanted so much to be there! But you all were in my thoughts and prayers! I love each of you!!

Dear Lavender family,
Please accept our condolences for your loss. John Loyd and I were cousins. Aunt Ella and my mother, Mary Moore, were sisters. We didn't live close but I do remember our visits to Old Fort and family reunions at Grandma and Grandpa Moores. It was a great time to grow up. I spent all my adult life out of state but it was always a wonderful experience to visit such a good Christian family as John Loyd's. I know he will be greatly missed by all. God Bless, Lloyd and Susan Shipman

Precious, Uncle John. You were always such a sweet, sacrificial servant. Always gracious, gentle, and kind. Never an impatient spirit, never a harsh word. Christ was truly seen and magnified through you. Love you.

Dear Gary, Judy, and all the family, you are certainly in our prayers at the Homegoing of Brother Lloyd. Old Fort has lost a native son, a Christian gentleman, who will be sorely missed. When our family moved to Old Fort with daddy's gospel ministry in 1962, I soon learned about the good man who could design a floral arrangement to custom satisfaction and delight! I had the utmost respect for Brother John Lloyd and we shared alot down through the years on the things of our Savior, Lord, and Master! It can't get any better than that! How awesome it will be when God's children all get Home... there will be no more heartaches, no more goodbyes. Please give your Jonathan our condolences on the passing of his young wife in recent days. We pray for your strength and courage at this most difficult time. Look to Christ for He cares for you!

Please accept our most sincere condolences in the loss of your family member. I had the unique opportunity of knowing John through his brother Gary, who helped inspire me to try to attempt to play in the style of Chet Atkins, a style that Gary more than mastered! I felt a special kindredship through music and through family. On behalf of me and my family, God Bless all of you as you savor the fond memories and influences of John Loyd Lavender. I love Uncle John. He was a wonderful Christian man. I always enjoyed going to Old Fort and seeing the Lavender clan and visiting Uncle John and Great Grandma. There was such a warm presence in the house. I preach to kids a lot and I have a feather from one of Great Grandma's guineas to teach the kids how God made us all different. I always tell them where that feather is from. You have to admit that there's no feather like a Lavender feather. All you Lavender's know what I mean. I know Uncle John is having a great time in Heaven right now and I know we're all looking forward to being with him and our sweet Savior in just a short period of time. We love you Uncle John and we'll miss you.
love,
Sam and Hilary Lavender
PS Thanks Uncle John for supporting me on my mission trips and being so interested in my ministry. We'll miss you.

All because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, those who know the Lord will soon be reunited with Brother John in Heaven. I plan to sing tenor next to Uncle John some. I'm sure Grandma Lavender will play a tamborine on her hip and sing along. What a choir that will be. Even so come quickly.

To Bro. John's family, may you know that we are keeping you in our prayers continually. Bro. John will forever have a special place in our heart, he was one of those people who you know loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, soul, and body. He never changed and was such a blessing and witness to all he was around. He has now traded his cross for a crown!

Family of Brother John, I can only imagine what it was like, when Bro. John entered those gates of Heaven. He was such a blessing here on earth. His life touched many..probably more than anyone can count. He really touched my life. He was a wonderful teacher, and minister of the Gospel, with is words, and life. I will remember Bro. John always, and one day we will all meet in that beautiful home. I loved to hear him sing Ain't no grave, gonna hold my body down..He has made it home. I know He will be greatly missed, here on earth. But oh what a reunion it will be when we make it to Heaven..You all are in my thoughts, and prayers. Keep the Faith, and press on. I love you all!!
