He was the pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California for more than 50 years, and he became known to a wider faith community with his radio and TV ministry, "Grace to You."
MacArthur is being remembered for preaching a fundamentalist interpretation of scripture in his sermons and books.

My first contact with GTY was in 2003 when i got a free copy of John's teaching on contentment. In 2004 my sister inlaw from South Africa gifted me a copy of the MacArthur study Bible.
Ever since,got infected with John's teaching on GTY. In 2018 all the way from Nigeria i attended my first ever Shephards Conference where i personally met Pastor John.
Pastor John knew who he has served. In.his teaching,his writings,his teaching,Pastor Johnknows whom he has committed his soul to.

Never met Pastor John MacArthur, but the impact of his message was tremendous in my life when my brother introduced me to his messages, and I have seen the Word of God transform my very thought and how it is being renewed every day. His message gave me the confidence in the thought of meeting my Saviour. Truly a man loved by God - a beautiful legacy given to the world. May many more impactful servants of God come out of Grace Community Church through his seminary. In the coming years, may the Church stand as the light in a fallen world bringing more souls to the Kingdom of God.

I never met him in person, but started listening to him on the radio many many years ago. through his teaching I have learned a lot about the Bible and what it says and means I have looked to his information and books for many questions. I have relied on his wisdom. I am very sad by his loss, but very happy that he is with the Lord as I feel he was looking forward to in his spreading of the gospel in all his ministries and colleges, books, and speaking. I will continue to learn by his teaching from Grace to You on the Internet for which I am very grateful. I wish condolences for his family, which he spoke of many times and thank you for sharing him with so many people. he successfully finished the race and will be crowned in glory.

I started to go to GCC in the 1990's. Pastor MacArthur is the best of all time!! He is the true one. How he breaks down the bible verses to being a true man of god. The world is missing him greatly. God used Dr. John MacArthur to open my eyes to the truth of His Word. While studying in the seminary for the Catholic priesthood in the Philippines, I would listen to the Grace to You radio broadcasts. His verse-by-verse expository preaching convinced me to leave the Catholic Church.
When I later moved to California, I visited Grace Community Church. As Dr. MacArthur preached on Philippians 3, tears streamed down my face. I couldn´t help but reflect on the ten years I had spent training to be a priest-years of theological study that, in light of knowing Christ as my personal Savior, I now count as rubbish. In Him, I have the blessed assurance that I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Today, my heart overflows with gratitude to God-not only for His saving grace in my life, but also for the joy of seeing my own son serve as the cellist at Grace Community Church.

Thank you Pastor MacArthur for teaching me GOD´s word. When family or friends would ask me a Bible question I couldn´t answer I always went to GTY Resources and found the biblical answer through a sermon Pastor MacArthur had preached. Tho I live in Florida I tried every Sunday over the past 8 years to watch online GOD´s Word being taught, I learned more from Pastor MacArthur sermons than any Pastor I had studied under. It was like getting a precious drink of water in a desert. My prayers go to the MacArthur family for I know he will be greatly missed. John MacArthur has influenced my walk with Christ since the very beginning when at VA Tech 30 years ago. Within 6 months of being saved, roommates who were involved with the charismatic movement were sharing information that I didn't understand. My pastor gave me Charismatic Chaos, and it was the start of what would become my husband's and my library, which now has many MacArthur volumes. Our family has benefitted tremendously from Grace to You, from the sermons to books. We are praying for Patricia, the rest of the family, Phil Johnson and the GTY team. Rejoicing has never been so easy as when thinking of this godly servant, yet the loss is great. It is a joy to know we can fully trust God's timing.

I listen to John MacArthur bible teachings every morning for years. I fall in love on how he presented the gospel message. He was clear, strict and direct. He was a passionate pastor that loved Jesus, the bread of life and the truth. A pastor that wasn´t ashamed of the gospel no matter where he was invited to be. He wasn´t afraid talking about any biblical topic regarding sin, repentance, heaven, hell, condemnation, immorality etc.
He was truly one of a kind, and I will miss him dearly.

I remember back in the 80's as a kid growing up I would ride in my dad's old blue truck as he went to work. During the 30 minute commute we would listen to Bro. MacArthur on Grace to you. I was working the janitor´s night shift in a huge industrial building; had my mop bucket, a small little portable cassette player with "Grace To You" sermons on cassettes in my backpack. John MacArthur was the greatest preacher of our time. The most dedicated preacher and teacher of The Word I have ever heard. He never compromised The Word, and would boldly speak forth the Word of God. He never backed down from anyone who tried to challenge him. John MacArthur is and has been my favorite pastor and teacher for many years now, and will continue to be so as I continue listen to him on the radio. He is probably the most impressive person to listen to I have ever heard because of his ability to speak in such a clear and expounding manner. I've never heard another person speak quite like John. He literally blows me away in some of his teachings which I have passed on to many others. He got better and better as he slowed his manner of speaking down a bit in his last 10 to 20 years of preaching. There will probably never be another preacher/teacher come around at least in my lifetime quite like John MacArthur. He is blessed now to get to be with the Lord and out of this crazy world...

my condolences to Pastor MacArthur's family. I became familiar with his teaching through his radio ministry several years ago. I truly believe that he never buried from the truth and stuck to preaching the gospel and teaching strictly by the Scriptures.
His teaching has blessed me and my wife and helped us to grow. God bless him richly! And may God bless each of you. I am so sorry for your loss.

John MacArthur was one of the most influential Pastors in my life. I listed to his cassette tapes all the time in the 90´s and 2000. His book, "Grace Awakening" profoundly changed my life!!! It was a humble honor to meet him & hear him preach at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN ~ and to also meet Pastor Adrian Rodgers. What a powerful night that was! I will always be grateful to God for his ministry & the amazing blessing of him praying over me.

I was blessed the first time I listened to Pastor John MacArthur on Ligonier Ministries. Then I started following him at Grace Community Church. I learned so much from his messages from wherever. I came across Grace to you church and John MacArthur on YouTube and starting listening to his sermons and my daughter also listens to him He has made an impact on our faith in Christ Jesus the Lord although we are already believers. Our hearts are so heavy right now at this very sad news but we know in our hearts that he´s with the Lord right now.

I can only imagine what he's seeing and doing right now in heaven. His books and messages have been and will continue to be such a help and blessing in my life.
