John P. Machnicki

John P. Machnicki Died - November 4, 2013 Farmington - John P. Machnicki, 87, of Farmington, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013 at John Dempsey Hospital. He was the husband of the late Sara Jane Machnicki, who predeceased him in 2003. Born in Norwich, John was one of seven children to the late Paul and Elizabeth Machnicki. A graduate of Norwich Free Academy, he went on to trade school for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country during W.W. II, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He and Sara Jane married in 1949, and settled in Farmington where they raised their four children. A man of hard work ethics, John owned and operated Mac Plumbing and Heating in Farmington until his retirement. When he wasn't working, he was fulfilling his lifelong passion for fishing and boating with his family on Long Island Sound, or enjoying the outdoors maintaining his yard or gardens. He is survived by his children, John and his wife, Elaine of Somers, Mark of Bristol, April Ginty and her husband, Rik of Niantic, and Bea Swanson and her husband, Tim of North Stonington; and his grandchildren, Ryan, Sara Jane, John, Jessica, Catherine, Hanna, and Lauren. He also leaves his sisters Stella Carnes and Veronica Sylvester and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Jennie Samokar and Marian Machnicki, and brothers, William and Alex Machnicki. Honoring John's wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
