John MacIsaac Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 10 to May 11, 2007.
MacISAAC _ John David (Jack) August 10, 1937 - May 7, 2007 It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Jack MacIsaac. Jack passed away suddenly at his home in Stoney Plain, AB at the age of 69. Born and raised in Truro, NS, Jack attended Truro schools, underwent technical training in sheet metal, and later qualified as an electrician in Toronto. He ventured west into Alberta in the late sixties and had made his home there ever since. While in Alberta, Jack developed a latent entrepreneurial spirit, which led him through a number of business activities in construction, sales, and finance. He was most pleased with the success of his first store, Budget TV in Edmonton in 1977. Over the next twelve years, Jack, along with three associates, increased the number of appliance rental stores to thirty-six outlets, making it the largest such chain in Canada. After retiring from Rentown Enterprises as VP Operations, Jack travelled widely whilst maintaining his financial interests in both Calgary and Edmonton. From his youth, Jack was strong-willed and determined to achieve the goals he identified as important. He was an avid reader, pilot, horseman, motorcyclist, musician, and philosopher. His jovial and teasing nature made him a favourite with his nieces and nephews. A private man, Jack spent most of his time between his two ranches in Stony Plain and Bearspaw. He also enjoyed the simplicity of being alone in some of his most treasured places - the mountains on horseback, and more recently, in the area around his ancestral home in Nova Scotia. Jack is survived by his daughter Lisa Maureen (Chris); his son John Anthony; and two brothers and three sisters: Colin (Helen) of Calgary; Laurie (Maureen) of White Rock, BC; Mary-Janet (Mario) Munari of Rome, Italy; Anne Rosgen of Calgary; and Sarah (Steve) Ross of Cochrane; and fifteen nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his aunts, Cecilia MacIntosh and Florence MacIsaac, many cousins in Nova Scotia, as well as life-long friend Vern Nelson, his wife Beth, and their family of Calgary. Jack was predeceased by his parents John A. and Sarah C. MacIsaac of Truro, NS. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Michael W. Duggan officiating. Memorial donations can be made directly to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1608 - 17 Avenue S.W., Suite 204, Calgary, AB, T2T 0E3. For Jack: I'll use this quote of an author I no longer remember the name.

"To live on in the hearts of those you loved
Is not to die."

"Jack will always be the happy, free wheeling cowboy to me, ready with a joke and a smile. He was always my ally in the family, and saw promise in me even when I was a young ruffian. I'm so glad he had a chance to visit with us last year. We will miss him greatly."
With Love Joseph.

Dear Mary

That's so sad about Jack, but at least he didn't suffer a long agonizing death.
Please know my thoughts are with you all at this sad time. This is your
first sibling to pass and I know how painful it is. Very hard on the ones left.
Take care of yourself. These emotional shocks take a heavy toll.

Love,

Marilee

Tribute to Jack-Our friend -Our Family
-read at the Jack's Service in Calgary- By Catherine Nelson-Reid

On our mom and dad's behalf I stand before all of you representing my two brothers and my 5 sisters.

When my mom married our dad -she married two men -Our Dad and Jack-they were a package deal...But Jack also got 8 more kids!
On May 10 1956 Our Dad left Truro with their socks and underwear in a brown paper bag and headed for fame and fortune in Sudbury

I asked Pa last night what he'd like me to say on all of our behalf's he gave me a collection of words to describe Jack
> Compassion
> Generosity
> Wisdom
> Thoughtful
> Unselfish
> Nurturing
> Unrelenting in his compassion to our family
Jack was our family
> Our teacher, our counselor
> Our guide
> Our friend
Jack taught us all kids
> Our right knowledge
> Wisdom
> Compassion
> Harmony- to accept the natural flow of life
> Creativity
> Strength-to stand up against fear and move forward in spite of uncertainty

He gave us
> Peace
> Love
> And JOY-he kept us songful and laughing and dancing all along the way
-There isn't a song that we all hear that we haven't heard Jack play, sign or whisper in our ear as we danced with him

My mom gave me a card for my birthday and it had something in it that I thought was very appropriate

We've lived the same story,
Shared the same hopes and tears and dreams.
We've journeyed the same hills and valleys, endured challenges and celebrated the joys.
It may be because we are family but I say it's because we are kindred spirits and hearts who were meant to live our lives at the same time in earth

Dear MJ & Family:
You and your family are so much on my mind - It was such a privilege to see you all during that great trip to NS when your whole family got together. Jack was such a treat and I've always known that he really lived his life and made things come together for so many people. Please give my warmest wishes to your family and a hug and love to Laurie.

Dear Lisa,

Jack’s passing away has been surprising and painful.

Just recently I used to think that I would have liked meet him again soon.

I’ll miss his generosity, irony, also his severity.

I’m with you and MacIsaac’s family with all myself!

Now he’ll be able to ride golden clouds with his Harley...

A big hug

your cousin Marcello

Ciao Jack, one day after we knew about your departure we planted in our garden a little mandarine tree; this tree will grow and will be tall and strong like you which I remember from afar ( in space, but not in spirit), solitary, generous tree, Mario

Jack, my friend, my mentor. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, throughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow! What a ride!"
I think that quote pretty much sums up my friend and mentor, Jack.

Jack your gone but you'll never be forgotten. Our days as young children out at our Grandmothers place in Dunmore getting water from the well and your favorite thing, berry picking. Those days in the hot sun helping with hay making. Such fun we had and I know I was a real pain in the butt at times but you never seemed to mind. I'm so happy for the memories and I will miss you at the family get togethers.
Love cousin Barb.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
