I just learned this morning of John's passing. Our friendship goes back to Iowa State College days -- we were both involved in Army ROTC at the time. Great guy. . . one of my great friends.

Dear Sarah,
First off, thanks so much for taking the time at this sad moment to let us know about John's passing. He was always proud of you and the 'kids', and we have great memories of John when we lived in Waterloo. Sarah, you will be in our thoughts and prayers, especially at this difficult time.

Dear Sarah & Maney family,
The news of John's death just reached us, and we are deeply saddened. He took a personal interest in helping us find the right place to live when we moved to Minneapolis. Thanks to him we spent 3 good years in Hopkins instead of a shared house in a marginal neighborhood. Thanks for the advice, John. You were looking out for us, and we are still grateful.

Dear Mike and Family,
It is never easy to lose a parent. Your dad was so young. I only know him by what he left behind; and that shining legacy is you, Mike. Wishing you peace and sending prayers of support and love to you and your entire family.

To all of the Maney family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I had the great honor of working with John for several years. I will never forget the way he would cross the entire office just to ask me how I was doing if I hadn't seen him for a few days. Clearly, one of the finest human beings I have known.

I was saddened to hear of the death of your father, husband, grandfather and friend John. I was blessed to have gotten to know him through the men's group called 12 Baskets. I was additionally graced by being able to spend a couple of breakfasts with John and enjoy his quiet and powerful presence.
His passion, his sense of joy, his easy smile and laughter, along with his quick wit, were all fantastic attributes. I will miss the opportunity to extend my time with John but will look forward to that in another place and dimension.
Thank you for sharing him with all of us.

To all the Maney Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. John was a wonderful friend of ours and we will miss him so much. The quote that ..."there was never a better man" is so right on for him. This place will be missing one great man and samaritan, and Heaven will be the winner.
God bless you all.
