John Marchitto Sr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2024.
John Joseph "Moe" Marchitto Sr., 92, passed away on July 5, 2024, in West Haven, Connecticut. Born in New Haven, CT, on May 17, 1932, he was a lifelong resident of the area and cherished member of the community.

John served honorably in the United States Army as a Corporal from November 10, 1952, to October 16, 1954. Following his military service, he had a successful career as a machinist, working at Ulbrich Wire in Wallingford and Northeastern Shaped Wire in Southington.

Moe was a passionate musician and an integral part of The Connecticut Hurricanes Drum Corp, where he showcased his skills as a talented base drum player. His dedication to music was matched by his commitment to bowling. He served as President of the New Haven County USBC Bowling Association and coached for the New Haven Junior Bowling Association. His contributions to the sport earned him induction into both the New Haven Bowling Association Hall of Fame and the Connecticut Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Aside from music and bowling, John enjoyed traveling and was an avid sports fan, particularly of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees.

John was the beloved son of the late Angelo and Josephine Marchitto. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Marchitto, and his fiancee, Judy Dwyer. He is survived by his son, John J. Marchitto Jr. (Terry); stepdaughters, Gail Reese, Darlene Vitale, Janet Lintgeris, Diana Rigoli (Tony), and Lisa Roberts (Jon); sister, Theresa Ruth; and a cherished legacy of over 35 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, located at 2819 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT, 06518 on Saturday, July 27th at 10am. John's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

John was a part of our lives for a very long time as he and our mom Judy were connected at the hip. I will always hold close the many laughs and passionate conversations about Yankee baseball. We had a ton of fun on some of our Guthrie Family Reunion trips that took us all over the country and yes sitting on the sidelines with my mom as he performed with The Park City Pride in Bridgeport. I would always call him John John Parmesean and he'd call me Bob Bob Broccolli Rabe. Rest Easy John, thanks for all the love you gave Mom and the rest of our family
